  • Final Fantasy VII returns to PC

    By Aaron Yorke

Fans of classic Japanese role-playing games will be happy to know that Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII is now available for download on PC. Originally released for the PSX in 1997, Final Fantasy VII is widely considered one of the best RPG's ever, and most would consider it a bargain at the $11.99 that Square Enix is asking for.

Of course, as with any re-release, the PC version of FF VII is not without its bonus features. Players will be treated to 36 PC-exclusive achievements as well as the ability to save their progress on a cloud and continue from any other computer with an Internet connection.

There’s also the option to boost character stats to gain an extra edge, but everyone knows that true fans would never do that. Right?

Players can get Final Fantasy VII by going to Square-Enix’s online store.

What a waste. Whoever came up with this is both a genius and a world class dick.

Now what they won't say anywhere... Is about all they did was take the original vintage 1998 port of the game and patch it to actually run under Windows NT based OSes. Then added a pay to cheat option. The "cloud" thing is just a popular gimmick.

If users are lucky, they'll get treated to vintage bad MIDI conversions of the music and the original badly compressed video segments.

Heheheh....I called a store named Game Crazy to see if they had a copy of FF VII, and the clerk said that they did. I rushed down there only to find that the clerk kept the game for himself.

Game Crazy went out of business a few months later.

Let it be known: if you employ a clerk who abuses his authority in a way that annoys dlevere, your company will go out of business shortly thereafter.

I agree; I've been uninterested in the FFVII re-release since I first heard its details, and I'm not changed in my opinion since hearing about it from people who've bought it.
