  • Who remembers AOL Punters?

Who remembers AOL Punters aka IM-Bombers? I remember thinking how cool I was because I could kick whoever I wanted offline. The most popular and best punter that I had was called "Magenta". There was also "AOHell", but I never had that punter. Back in the 90's, everyone was connected online through AOL (America Online.) Everyone communicated through IMs (instant messages). I had over 200 friends on my Buddy List and there were always atleast 50 people logged on at any given time. But now, I'd be lucky to see one or two people logged on. Where I live, back then AOL was just as big/popular as Facebook/Twitter is today. After the 90's, AOL's popularity started to die and then they merged with Time Warner which didn't work out too well and they disbanded. After everyone stopped using AOL, MySpace became the new big thing. After MySpace came Facebook and now it's currently Twitter.

I'm sure that some of you hackers had to remember AOL Punters. Maybe some of you even wrote a Punter?

Now broadcasting from the underground command post. Deep in the bowels of a hidden bunker. Somewhere under the brick & steel of a nondescript building. We've once again made contact w/ our leader, OSG

Never heard of them. AOL was a disease in my eyes. I remember them logging every single tiny thing everyone did, and then supposedly *accidentally* releasing every little crumb of info on people. Names, sites, logins, ebay, whatever. I'm glad I never used their crap CDs for anything other than target practice.

I remember the bunters but by the time I found out they were no longer functioning or at least that one wasn't. I believe they just caused some kind of data over flow and it forced the aol service to disconnect.

I always enjoyed putting the CDs in my Microwave and destroying them that way. Not that I recommend doing that though, it can damage your microwave and cause a horrible smell. Ah, adolescence.

As long as you don't put the annoying tin case in the microwave with the CD, it should be fine. I really enjoyed destroying their annoying disks. Gawd I hated AOL.
