Kind of an odd announcement to see here. If you're bored, there's always getting Sony's keys for the PS3.

You do know the PS3 has been hacked, right?

what are u talkin about? the ONLY thing i've seen in the US for ps3 that even makes an attempt at coming close to what codebreaker was is that usercheat dongle device that i'd have to specially order to obtain, and from everything i've read on it the thing is useless.. codefreak is only in japan and from what i've heard will always remain so.. intill i see codebreaker disks for ps3 being sold at wal mart like they were for ps2 back in the good ol' days of gaming the ps3 hasn't been fully hacked, man its a shame too, everytime i play a new game on ps3 i'm reminded at some point of why i miss codebreaker so much...

It's not fully hacked, but there is definitely stuff that can be done to games that have firmware updates of 3.55 and lower, and even some past that. There's also spoofers to play newer games, and certain games have different files that people can modify.

Using the term "fully hacked" seems a little weird to me. There's not some objective standard we can use for that label, and comparing the PS3 to the PS2 just based on the commercial availability of cheat devices is apples to oranges. The PS2 was "fully hacked" by that standard within several months, because it was a static target, and the boot lockout was mainly based on a physical signature of bad sectors written to its media. The signature was forged by joining two bits of disc together and some other bits of trickery. Meanwhile, it took years for a flourishing development scene to develop, and people forever complained that it wasn't "fully hacked" until you could plug in a GameShark Pro-like device. The PS3 not only has much tougher security, it's a moving target. It won't be anything like "fully hacked" until Sony no longer cares about it, because they can force updates on users that patch its weaknesses. Meanwhile, most western governments are passing silly laws that make compromising security on a game console or a blu-ray player punishable by having your hands cut off. There's clearly a capacity for producing something similar to a CodeBreaker on the PS3. We've had a couple of examples pop up, but I'm not sure if releasing them commercially would be legal.
I seem to recall Japanese copyright law has some weird hitches in it, kind of the Netherlands had for a while. Maybe that's why CodeFreak can be sold there.
Edit: Back on topic, I guess he hasn't felt like hacking what he wants for about a month.Last edited by Pyriel; 01-12-2012, 05:59:24 PM.
