  • Skyrim Update Coming for All Platforms

    By Andrew Goldfarb

Patches are coming to fix reported bugs in Skyrim. Bethesda has confirmed that issues will be addressed for all systems, and that work is currently underway on the updates.

"We are continuing to work on an update for all platforms to address any bugs and performance issues we can," Bethesda VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines tweeted.

Hines addressed the concerns of fans on Twitter, including some who were a little impatient. In response to one tweet, Hines wrote, "Patches/updates take a little time. We can't turn it around quite that fast. It's been three days. Calm down. We're working on it."

The update will likely fix the XBox 360 graphics issues that Bethesda has already addressed. A release for the patch hasn't been confirmed, and Hines wrote that the company is "not going to give time-frames on this" for now.

Skyrim 1.2 patch adds resistance bugs

        By Steve Watts

The notoriously buggy launch of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was mended somewhat by the 1.2 patch, but reports from users claim that the patch introduced new glitches to the game. Most prevalent seems to be a bug with resistance effects, doling out full damage to special attacks no matter what protection you have.

A thread on the Bethesda forum summarizes the common complaints post-1.2. In addition to the resistance effects, users claim that platform specific bugs like frame-rate issues and texture loading still persist. If you can find some humor in the situation, the forums also have multiple reports of dragons flying backwards.

Bethesda noted when announcing the patches that it wouldn't squash every bug, and the release on Monday promised that the company would keep an eye on forums for more reports.

Skyrim update fixes dragons, magic resistance

          By Rain Anderson

A new patch for Skyrim is now available via Steam, Bethesda alerts. Dubbed the 1.3 update, this would be the patch that patches the patch then, what with the last one making dragons fly ass first and all.

The issue with magic resistances is sorted as well. Catch the full if short change-log below:

          General stability improvements

Optimize performance for Core 2 Duo CPU's (PC)

Fixed Radiant Story incorrectly filling certain roles

Fixed magic resistances not calculating properly

Fixed issue with placing books on bookshelves inside player purchased homes

Fixed dragon animation issues with saving and loading

Fixed Y-look input to scale correctly with frame rate

The update will arrive on the consoles as well, but as always there’s the certification process, so it’ll be a while longer.

Skyrim 1.4 patch live on XBox 360 and PS3

Update 2: The PlayStation 3 patch is now live in North America.

Update: The update is now live for PlayStation 3 users in many European territories. We expect the patch to hit US users later today. If we hear from Sony, we’ll let you know.

If you’re encountering any strange in-game behavior immediately after applying the patch, don’t be alarmed — this is a normal function of the script backlog temporarily correcting itself. For more information on this, and how to speed up the process of PS3 performance enhancements, please read this forum post.

Original post: Following the PC patch, the 1.4 update for Skyrim is now live for Xbox 360 users. For the full list of changes, you can reference this blog post.

Bethesda has been far more hands-on with its latest release The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim when compared to its previous releases, game director Todd Howard says, having already patched the game more often than Oblivion and Fallout 3.

Speaking with GameInformer, Howard said: “When you put all this time into something and someone can’t play it, you feel terrible. They have every right to be pissed off.”

“We already have more updates out for this than Fallout 3 and Oblivion in their lifetime. So we’re really committed to fixing everything.”

That said, the latest beta patch for the RPG has hit Steam, though this one should be downloaded only by those affected by issues listed below, Bethesda suggests. And then there’s the whole ‘apply at your own risk’ thing.

                UPDATE 1.4.26

                LAUNCHER
                - Fixed issue with downloading mods when you are subscribed to more than 50 mods

                - Fixed crash when loading a subscribed mod that has been removed from Workshop by the author

                - Mod load order functionality

                BUG FIXES (PC only)

-Fixed occasional crashes when loading a save that relies on plugins/master files that no longer exist

-Fixed issue where controls would become unresponsive while charging an enchanted weapon

-Fixed issue where controls would occasionally become unresponsive while switching from third to first person while using the Arcane Enchanter

-Fixed issue where controls would become unresponsive if activating a crafting station with autorun active

-Fixed issue where keyboard would fail if Rename Item was selected before choosing the number of charges, while using Arcane Enchanter

-Fixed several issues with remapping buttons while using an XBox 360 controller

-Fixed issue where pressing Escape button after fast traveling but before the loading would cause certain menus to stop working properly

                  Skyrim's 1.5 Update is Brutal

Bethesda adds new kill moves and camera in update 1.5.
                  March 15, 2012

If you own the Steam version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you can download a beta version of the 1.5 update to enable some violent features.

Bethesda has added new kill moves and animations for melee weapons, as well as kill cameras for magic spells and bows.

These updates will be added to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game at some point soon in the future.

You can find a full list of the 1.5 change log over on Bethesda's site.
