I hate mobile device redirection

This is a huge issue that seems to have occurred more prolifically than one would expect. Basically, if you view some websites, especially news-related ones, with a phone or other mobile device, they redirect you to the mobile version of their site. However, most of them don't redirect you to the corresponding address of the specific page you were attempting to view; they redirect you to their main page, forcing you to start there and dig down to the page you were trying to view. On large news sites this proves to be ridiculously tedious, especially using a mobile device and a badly-implemented mobile web site design, so I usually just give up, or look to another site for the information I desire. As mentioned in the last sentence, the mobile design is also usually quite terrible.

It shows a total lack of knowledge on the part of the web developers involved, or at the very least, a lack of concern. It really pisses me off.

I know what you mean. I've always hated using handheld devices for internet use. I'm suprised they are as popular as they are since now days everyone owns a laptop.

I also don't understand why someone would want to buy/use a tablet when you can buy/use a laptop that has more functions, abilities, etc. The only benefit I can think of a tablet over a laptop is that the tablet is smaller in size and probably cheaper. So besides those two reasons, can anyone help me to understand why someone would choose to buy/use a tablet instead of a laptop?

Unless you are forced to because of money reasons or a job, there's no reason to ever bother with a tablet. They suck.

Is there some reason, function, and/or ability that the tablet can do that a laptop can't?

I guess if you only needed very simple functionality, and you had to constantly carry your device back and forth across long hallways by hand, a tablet might come in handy.
