  • PSX Help

Hardware help, dudes, I hope one of you can help me figure this out.

I have an old skool PSX, SCH-75XX series, so I use a GS Pro 3.2 hardware. Been using it for years, very few problems, except FFVIII and that's only because Square didn't code in a graphics refresh on that game.

My PSX has been in storage a while now, so tonight I plug it all back in, carefully airdust out the PSX to get the dust out. Put in my FFVII game disc. Load it up, load up the codes I usually use for FFVII, load up the game, get into the part where you see Aerith and it pulls back to Midgaard and it locks solid. So I reload it, after it comes up to New / Continue menu I press the button and turn off the codes. Load up a new game, get to just before kicking the two Soldier's arses right after jumping off the train, go into the menu, turned on the codes, play successfully up until the first save point inside the reactor. I go into the menu, press the button, turn off the codes, save the game, return to the menu, and press the button like I have done hundreds of times before and it locks solid again.

Nothing has changed since the last time I played, not added or edited codes, same game discs as before, same PSX as before, and it worked last time though all three discs up until the ending animation.

Am I looking at further cleaning of hardware or cd? Looking at getting my PSX repaired? (I sure as hell won't buy a PSOne) Or do I need to look on fleEBAY for a new GS Pro 3? Or some option I haven't thought of? Thanx all!

    PSX Help

I've had that problem, and my playstation hasn't sat around much. It's got something to do with the parallel port connection. Usually what happened was pressing the button was enough to knock the GS out of alignment, and that crashed the game. It'd probably help to clean it, however that might be done. Especially if you're missing the cover for that port...

Yeah, definitely make sure the GSPro is properly seated into the parallel port, and consider that it might be the actual disc...I had an FF7 disc that would lock if you cast certain summons, heh.
      I may be lazy, but I can...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ...

I've got two original discs that do they crashing thing, but it's still possible to go into the menu while they're stalled. I blame the developers for not doing something about the last 3 minute reading issue. Of course, right now, I'm having a similar problem with a game, which is really annoying. I'll probably end up having to just emulate it, as my playstation is just too old to read some er, backups.
