  • Am I the oldest person here?

Anyone here older than I, or near my age? I'm age 57.

No, I'm not some dried-up ole fart trying to be a kid again...I have a life, married with 2 children, 1 grandchild. I work a regular job in a steel mill, was in the navy '66-70. Played semipro football, OVFL '70-82, as a fullback/linebacker. I play my share of Senior league basketball and softball, don't use alcohol, tobacco, or dope & take good care of myself.

It just happens my desk hobby is VGs. I've seen'em all; I still have an original Pong console & the box it came in. I've fed more than one quarter into arcade VGs, & I've been a pinball wiz since I was a boy.

What's wrong with some of us "mature" people enjoying a little electronic fun? Heck, the daddy of VGs, Nolan Bushnell, is five years older than I, and is still very-much involved in the VG industry, and still plays the games!

Question: Is anyone else here my age, close to it, or older?

U may be, but I think I remember Luigi mentioned he is nearing retirement age. So that would mean he's 54'ish.

And I think that "only kids can play games" stereotype kinda died out mid 90's. When PSX came out videogames became much more mainstream and many older people started playing games. Hell, I can see why they would want to, I think they came out with lots of innovations, Fishing rods for consoles and stuff.

Heh, dude...I'll be playing VGs until I die, and I mean that just short of literally. And at least our older-gen members have experience in the classics, and don't act like children. Though really, the GSHI hasn't seen too much lame activity anyway...we've got a pretty impressive bunch.

Phil the hammer I don't think age has to do with enjoying playing the games and such, As long it keeps the mind or brain cells exercising will keep them young. I heard that somewhere. Its the fun that counts and keeps your heart young at heart. hehe

And I think its very cool, Hiro is right, its not just for kids.

Age shouldn't matter, it's how you think about things that really makes the difference. There was something else I was going to say, but it just slipped away...

                A "HARD" QUESTION...

I have a few buddies who sometimes tease me for playing VGs, saying "That's kids' stuff"...to which I reply, "You use Viagra, Cialis, or something similar? I don't need it; just ask my wife". Maybe it's the VGs...it's 'hard' to say"

Damn, and I was sober when I posted that too... Unless a slight lack of sleep can count as 'drunken'.

Heh, nice @ Phil. Mall Rats says different, but I propose that since playing games (especially ones you haven't played before) causes your brain to release dopamine and endorphins (the same happy-making chemicals - which are also believed to improve stamina and cause you to think more coherently - released during exercise and real-life exploration of new things) that the act really could increase libido...heh.

Am I the oldest person here?

And I am and was the one talking about 'age' a few times there. :P

I think it is wonderful that you are older Phil, not saying that in a bad way, I mean, I think it shows that really video games are not just a kid's thing anymore, as it was once thought up into the SNES days, then the PSX came out and it was a 'college kid thing' then the next gen systems, such as the GameCube and PS2 and everyone said, Okay well maybe 'everyone' likes video games now, well not everyone, but still is very good to see video game now a more welcome thing ammong all ages, and plsu also towards us girls to.

Without girl game fans, we'd not ahve alot fo the video games we have now, and soon to come, like well, The Winx Club. :P

So as is, I think it is great and as said, age does not matter really, yes some say it does, but on the most cases, whatever oen likes is what matetrs to them. (After all, I am a 29 year old woman, and still collect and buy anime and 'Winx Club' dolls and mess that 'most' would say is more in tune with 'little girls' ehh well...

                            ~Amy
