  • Clrmamepro Question for MAMEUI

I am using MAMEUI 0.142u2. The reason why I am not using the most recent version of MAMEUI is because it takes too long to load. But version 0.142u2 loads alot quicker due to a certain reason that is irrelevant to my question. Okay, so on to my question I have about the little program "clrmamepro"....

Since I am using a slightly older version of MAMEUI, I am afraid if I run the program, "clrmamepro", it will change all the file names to the ROMs, Flyers, Snapshots, Marquees, Titles, Cabinets, etc. to the updated file name changes of the newest MAMEUI.

I need all my file names to match those imbedded in the slightly older version of MAMEUI that I am using which is version 0.142u2. If I run the program "clrmamepro", will it change all my file's names to match the MAMEUI version that I am currently using? or will it change all my file's names to match the most recent/latest release of MAMEUI which is version 0.143u2?

I have never used "clrmamepro" so I am not familiar with it. Is "clrmamepro" the same program as "clrmame"?

Clrmame gets the ROM information direct from the MAME executeable as long as you point it to the mame executeable in the profiler rather than a DAT file

clrmame and clrmamepro is the same program, the pro gets dropped by people because of laziness.

The ROMs/Games I have work fine and there are no problems so I don't want to mess with changing/scanning my ROMs. Unless there is some reason that I should scan my game ROMs that I am not aware of? But what I do want to do is to scan my flyers, marquees, cabinets, snapshots, and control panel images. Because there are some images in those folders that don't match the file name of the game ROM.

So how do I just scan the flyers, marquees, cabinets, snapshots, and cpanel images?

After downloading clrmamepro and my first time opening the program... do I click the button "Add DatFile" and then choose the zip file with all the cabinet images... and it will scan it for me?

I tried reading the help documents but it gets confusing. And I tried watching a tutorial on youtube but I couldn't find one that was in English.

Does a cabinet/flyer etc. image exist for every game? Or are there some games in which people couldn't find an existing cabinet/flyer etc. image?

On a side question, since I am using the slightly older version 0.142u2, should I be using the mamehistory.dat (history.dat) and the mameinfo.dat file that corresponds with the version of my MAMEUI or should I use the latest/most recent mamehistory.dat and mameinfo.dat files?

And my last question, what is better to use?... the snapshots that you can download from http://www.progettosnaps.net/snaps_en.html
or the snapshots you can download from http://www.mameui.info/

Oh god, Clrmame. Haha. You are fulfilling every prediction I made :P

I have never used clrmame because that's a tool for people that are constantly updating their MAME's and their humongous ROM collection.

Like I said multiple times, just get one MAME and stick with that until whatever game you want to play becomes playable in a new version. If you're happy with your current MAME, then don't update it. Besides, if you only have 20 or even 50 games, you don't really need clrmame, just redownload the game if it doesn't work in the new version. If you get the mameinfo.dat you should know in what MAME version a change has been made to that game.

Personally I have an old MAME where all the games I want are played fine and fast, and a newer MAME in another directory with more modern games that have been made playable over the years.

Trust me, do not get into that whole "keeping up with MAME" thing, you'll go crazy. I can see you already started doing just that by downloading all those screens and cabinets. Understand that MAME gets updated every week or so, new changes will ALWAYS happen and you'll NEVER EVER EVER have a perfect and complete MAME set.

The only stuff that gets "outdated" with new versions are the roms. You can download all the files you want (screens, flyers, cabs, mameinfo.dat, cheat.dat, history.dat) regardless of what emulator version you have.

I haven't been updating my MAMEUI. I have been sticking with MAMEUI 0.142u2 because it loads ten times faster than all other MAMEUI versions, due to it not having the "play count" and "play time" enabled.

All my game ROMs work fine and I have no problem with them. And I don't wish to use clrmamepro on my game ROMs.

But some of the images I have downloaded of the snapshots, titles, cabinets, marquees, flyers, and control panels due not match the game's file name. So that is why I was interested in using clrmamepro to fix JUST my images' file name.

Using clrmamepro won't screw up your roms, it will fix them and name/arrange them correctly for your version as long as you are using the correct dat or using the mame.exe to compile the dat. But, using the exe will only get you the correct dat for the roms. You can use it no matter how big or little your collection is.

To fix your images, you'll need the dat files for the images.

I'm pretty sure you can configure the categories in mameui to your liking, so the fact that you are staying with that version for that reason is pointless.

No that is not the reason why I am staying with that version. As I stated above, I'm staying with that version (0.142u2) because that version loads ten times quicker than every other MAMEUI version. That version loads in less than ten seconds. Every other version of MAMEUI takes literally over a minute to load! The reason why my version loads so much quicker than every other version is due to the mame.ini file.

And my ROMs don't need fixing. Each one works fine. The only thing that needs fixing is some of my images. And I'm not really sure how to work clrmamepro and get it to fix some of the images. You said I need a dat file for my images. How do I get a dat file for my images?

Assuming the images you mention are for games you don't have, then why do you want them fixed?

And assuming the images are for games you do have, then all you have to do is rename them to the romzip name. Surely you can't have that many games, right?

The only way you're going to find out about clrmame stuff is to try it yourself. Just make a copy of your MAME folder an experiment.
