  • What is the origin of your nick/username?

I stumbled across a similar thread somewhere else, and I realized I don't know how most of your usernames came to be...

As for mine, some time in 1998, I was instant messaging a friend of mine, and he asked me to copy and paste some very simple piece of information, and I replied that I was too lazy to do that at the moment. He replied, "LOL, you lazy bastard."

I just so happened to be registering on the GSCCC forums (the center of the hacking scene, at the time), and I needed a nick. Not really concerned with what I chose, and thinking I was just registering so I could request a simple code for Final Fantasy VII, I used Lazy Bastard, mostly as a joke (after all, I was too lazy to toss my GameShark 2.3, go buy a GameShark Pro, and hack the code myself).

After requesting and receiving the code, I became interested in how it worked, and started learning about GameShark hacking. I then realized that I needed a GSPro, saved up the cash (hey, I was a kid), and bought one. I started hacking my own codes, and I ended up stuck with the name, heh.

Incidentally, I believe it was KingEdgaor0 that hacked the first code I requested, and I'm pretty sure it was "Modify Barret's first sentence", on this page:

    http://GameHacking.org/?s=v2&sys=1&gid=1&sid=165

If I recall correctly, it replaced the random symbols used in place of some vulgar word with the actual word, and this code inspired KE to make the "Midgar Un-Censor Code", which replaced all random symbol vulgarity replacements with the actual, intended words.

So, I implore thee...how did you get your nick?
    I may be lazy, but I can...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ...

Right around the same time, in '98, I was getting tired of my original nick, second_homer. I liked the Simpsons, but I didn't think the name was very clever or personal, and was a little long. I don't remember what I was registering for, because back then I joined just about everything that seemed cool.

I played in the orchestra in high school, including making it to state one year, and enjoyed a lot of pieces by the composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov; like Russian Easter and Capriccio Espagnol. While trying to think of a new nick, I wanted something that was personal to me, that maybe not a lot of people would get. I also wanted something short and cool sounding.

My brother would add his age to the end of his nicks, especially for his e-mail, and I thought that was dumb considering your age changes every year. So, since a lot of places I tried to register the name rimsky it was unavailable, I added my birth year on the end.

At first I mostly used the name in Yahoo! chat rooms, which were pretty popular at the time. I used to mainly peruse the trivia rooms, because that was pretty fun. Much to my surprise, a lot of people I came into contact with knew who Rimsky-Korsakov was.

At first I considered changing my nick, because a lot of people were calling me rimmer and rimjob. But those people were immature chat room people, so I decided not to let it bother me. A little later, Yahoo! added voice ability to their chat rooms, and people were mispronouncing my nick as rim-sky, as in the 2 separate words rim and sky, saying the "y" with a long I.

The correct pronunciation is RIM-ske (with a long E) and of course the 82.

    Sorry for being so verbose.

My names have never really had anything behind them. I'm usually just looking for a name that isn't already taken. To this day, I should have just went with y8rz3l56ye2n8q, so there would be no way on Earth my name would conflict with somebody else's. The first forums I ever went to was at www.Svencoop.com for the Half-Life 1 modification. Then I had another name and went to the www.seriouszone.com forums for Serious Sam stuff. Then out of nowhere I went to codetwink because they wouldn't allow me to view codes without signing in, and then I ended up at CMP and here. Now I've ended up at psx-scene, nextgenwhatever for CoD modifications, and se7ensins for CoD mods too.

y8rz3l56ye2n8q is just 2 old passwords put together that for some reason I permanently remember. That should have always been my name, that way there would be no possible way to have the forums of some websites tell me "that user already exists here" sort of message.

With me, I've always been a wrestling fan. During the late 80's there was a professional wrestler by the name of Ray Traylor (a.k.a. The Big Bossman). He was first known as a heel (or a bad guy) that would handcuff his opponent to the ropes & start beating them with his nightstick. As an 11-year old I thought that was cool. He has stood out as one of my favorite wrestlers from that era. One thing I could never figure out was how he could twirl that nightstick & point it like he did. One of my favorite matches that I liked of his was when he took on Hulk Hogan in a steel cage on Saturday Night's Main Event. His main finishing move was called the Bossman Slam. If you're familiar with what The Rock's finishing move is The Rock Bottom, its similar to that. The major difference is that most of the time the opponent is running at him when he does it. It looked so much better the "The Rock Bottom".

I've also worked in the mall security business for almost 10 years (prior to my current job). I've also had a respect for law enforcement. When I became a supervisor, many people started calling me "Bossman". Being that was the case & that I was a fan of The Big Bossman, I took it to another level. This will sound a bit childish & immature, but I made my job my personality. In such a short time, I managed to become a supervisor, an assistant security director, & a security director all in the span of three years. I also noticed there weren't very many people in their early 20's that was running a security team. I started saying "I am Mall Security." It was real funny too because one of the guys I worked with knew about what I was saying. Later on we were walking through the mall together & a lady came up to me & asked "Are you Mall Security?" I said "I am." He laughed when I said it the way I did.

Thus the character I created on Smackdown 2: Know Your Role was born. My character name was Mall Security, which was me in black BDU's & a black t-shirt. Since the game didn't have a proper looking Bossman Slam, I used The Rock Bottom for a short time. I renamed it "The Supervisor Slam". I later used Edge's move "The Edgecator" modified it to become "The Penalizer". I went to a WWE Monday Night Raw event in 2003 & brought a sign that said "Call Mall Security". I sitting too far from the cameras that my sign wasn't seen. I bet people that were there were scratching their heads on that one. In 2007, I got out of the Mall Security business, so I retired the Mall Security persona.

In 2004, the real Big Bossman died of a heart attack. I use that screen name as a way of paying my respects to a guy that entertained me as a kid.

Hacking games is always fun because you don't know what's hidden in the game.

Hmmm my old nickname is still part of my real name Helder, yes that is my real name it is a Portuguese name and not Dutch which some people of Dutch origin have told me it means "Clear".

My old nickname was Angry Helder, this simple nickname came from the fact that I was a rather angry and short tempered person who would usually just do and say anything to anyone with no consideration for their feelings or authority (I still challenge authority till today it's coded into my genes I guess) and I did treat many noobs and other people who just didn't get the things I assumed were easy to get badly and even had complaints while I moderated the old cmgsccc gba forums when I hacked codes there.

My ex-wife and current girlfriend (life is funny lol) once told me that I'm a jerk that hurts peoples feelings with the things I say,I never realized that the things I say where hurtful till I took a look at myself through someone else's perspective and then realized wow I am an asshole lol.

Having been married and living that situation and also having a son (a little mini me and as addicted to games and the PC as me too) I have toned down considerably but I can still lay the smack down when it's needed, now I just go by real name without the Angry part and I believe I am the most famous Helder on the net too (do a google search for Angry Helder, AngryHelder).

            Let's hear some ore stories!

My nickname is pretty self explanatory. I am not into any of the newer game systems. I only play the older systems which include NES, SNES, Genesis, and MAME. I believe that NES, SNES, and Genesis are the 3 best game systems ever created and, for me, there are plenty of games for those 3 game systems to keep me busy...

"Phil The Hammer" was by boxing nick. I fought amateur, Lt. hvy and hvy, from 1966-74, with a record of 37-6-0 scoring 31 KOs. In those days, we couldn't fight amateur upon reaching age 26, & I knew I didn't have the speed to go pro, even though I had plentya power.

Levere is my real middle name. D is the middle initial of my grandfather, who died before I was born. Hence, dlevere.

...many people used to tell me they thought my nick was mac rox as in rocks....which is cool to me...but it really is more boring than that...mac is my initials and rox is part of the place I live. I had to come up with a user name for a service provider while on the phone with them one day...and that popped in my head.

I will stop in again soon...ciao

I would just like to say that I am NOT the person "olskoolgamer" from gamespot.com, gamefaqs.com, arcade-museum.com, etc. That is a different person.
