Is there a way to get a real SNES Game Genie to work on a real SNES for the following games...

    Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, 3
    Super Mario Kart
Star Fox (I believe Star Fox is impossible because of the FX Chip)
Super Star Wars, Return of the Jedi
    NBA JAM Tournament Edition
    Super Metroid
    WWF Royal Rumble
    Mortal Kombat 2

My SNES Game Genie won't work for these games. Is there any tweaking I can do to make it work?

    Did you try master codes?

I believe I did on some of them but it still didn't work. After I entered the game genie codes and pressed start, the screen just turns black and stays black and the game doesn't start. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?

It's not that the codes don't work... even if I have the game genie connected and don't enter any codes at all and I press start to start the game, the screen turns black and the game does not start. The game starts fine when the game genie is not connected. I heard that those games I listed were too powerful for the game genie or have a special chip in the game that the game genie can't run. I don't know though. I was just wondering if anyone knew how to get those games to work on a real game genie used on a real Super Nintendo console? If there is anything I can do to get those games to run using the game genie

The games that I listed will not start when using my game genie. The game genie screen shows up like it's supposed to but after I press start to load the game, the game does not run and it goes to a black screen. I connect the game genie to one of those games, then I insert the game that's connected to the game genie into my SNES console. The game genie screen is displayed where I can type in my codes. But after I'm done typing my codes in or even if I don't type any codes in and I press start to load/start the game, the screen turns black and stays black and the game does not start. So it's not like the codes that I am entering is causing the screen to turn black and have the game not start/load because even if I enter no codes at all and I press start, the screen still turns black and stays black and the game does not start/load. The games work fine when they are not connected to my game genie so I know it's not like I have defected (not working) games. So I am wondering if anyone knows why this is happeneing, if they know how to fix it?

No its neither the code nor the SNES game. The SNES games work just fine without the game genie. And it's not the codes because even if I am using the game genie with my game and I DON'T enter any codes and I press start to load/start the game, the screen turns and stays black for those games

Could also be the version of the console you have.

It sounds to me like you have a version 1 SNES genie. Nintendo started blocking the version 1 with games like Super Metroid, and so Galoob came out with a version 2 that works on those games.

If you look at the contacts on a regular cart, and then at a game with extra processing chips like Star Fox, you'll notice extra contacts on either side of the normal ones. The game genie does not accommodate for these contacts, therefore will not work perfectly, or at all, for these games unmodified since not all of the data is reaching the console. I believe people have modified their genies to pass this data through to the console, but that's not a sure-fire way to get it to work.

I believe I have the original game genie. I bought it for $1.99 at Gamestop. I did not know there were two versions of the Galoob Game Genie. So the only way I can use a Game Genie on those games is if I buy a newer game genie? What is the new game genie called? How can I tell/know the difference between the two? My SNES Game genie is the one in the picture at wikipedia "Game Genie": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Genie

They look very similar, but maybe this will help-

                            Pasted from http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35142

Yes there were different versions, but I'm not sure how many different versions were made or what ones worked on certain SNES models. Here's what I do know:

1st version - on the code screen, the yellow dash is already there in all the codes. On the later model, the dash doesn't appear until you enter the first 4 letters of the code

1st version - had a codebook limited to only early games around 1991. The later model had a much bigger, red and white codebook.

1st version - if you opened up the Game Genie, the PCB would have a lot of big chips similar to a regular SNES cart. The later version almost looked like a bare PCB, except for a tiny blob of epoxy covering the chip in the center.

You might find a version # on the PCB. I don't remember if there is or not.

                            Hope this helps.

BTW, Yoshi's Island seems to only work with the 1st version - strange but true
There is also this from our wiki that possibly needs to be expanded: http://www.thegshi.org/wiki/Game_Genie_%28SNES%29

You can see the picture on here has many design differences from the picture on the wiki page you posted. Mine works with Super Metroid, and looks exactly like the picture from the link you posted.

oh ok, i see. There are actually 3 different versions. I guess before I buy a new game genie, I have to make sure it's the 2.0 version and I will ask the store if I can test out the game genie on Super Metroid or Super Mario Kart or one of those type of games I listed to see if it works. I either have the 1.0 version or the 1.1 version. I don't want to buy another game genie and get stuck with one that still won't work on those games. I do see the minor differences in physical appearance on the cartridge between the 2.0 and 1.0 versions
