Where is the new hacking thread of the winning game (NES) TMNT 3- Manhattan Project? Has it been created yet?

As per suggestion, Weekly Hacking Target threads (with the exception of this one) have been moved to Last Gen & Retro Hacking.

Well if anyone is interested 0x1D233 - 0C - Range left and right and 0x1D298 - 0C - Range up are for Metroid on the gun you start off with at the start

This is my way of saying I got the emulator you suggested and got going with it I'm pretty sure these offsets are well known (in fact I'm pretty sure I done a tutorial with them a year or so back) but I thought I'd try and work them out to see how I got on. I noticed however that the offset put out by the debugger is 0xF off from the actual value in the ROM (Actually the debugger said 0x07D224 and 0x07D289), is this standard across all ROMs? (EDIT - No it's not, tying another ROM quickly answers that question)

It's a pretty awesome emulator, I love the step through feature and the slow motion, makes it alot easier to narrow things down. Oh and I don't mean to be hijacking this thread btw, will stop after this.

Check out the Assembly Hacking page:

    http://gamehacking.org/wiki/Assembly_Hacking#NES

You'll want FCEUX. It's got some quirks, but they aren't too terrible. It's the best debugging tool for any game system that I've seen so far.

Assuming the poll doesn't change by then I take it W&W2 will be the next game of choice. I've never played it before as I am not a huge NES fan, can someone fill me in on what's generally the emulator of choice for debugging NES roms? (I'm used to the several different versions of GENS for the Sega Megadrive if that will influence your answer). Even though I'm not a NES fan I'm keen to get involved in one of these and I'd like to get my environment setup before we begin and maybe have a quick play through the game to see what its all about.

This game is definitely worth playing, to go through as many areas as you can manage. Can't remember if I beat it or not. I'm pretty sure I beat W&W I, but my memory is hazy. Seems to me it was too easy, but W&W II was not. I do remember W&W II being a very rewarding gaming experience though. There were truly some very good programmers behind it! That is, if you can look past the unclear footing conditions

OK, got it. That thin groove in the background acts as a hill, and 1:1 diagonal hills in that game make you slide. It may not look like a hill, but it is. That one had me going for a while too, back in the day.
Yep, that definitely is the part I was talking about. I just tested it out and your right, they are diagonal hills/slopes. It's weird. They just look like part of the background. That actually prevented me from playing the game because I got frustrated and was like this is bullsh*t, there is a big glitch in the game and I don't have patience for that stuff anymore. But now that I can see those slopes and know they are part of the game and not just background, I can jump accordingly to avoid them. So I'm going to play and beat this game when I have some free time. If this game winds up being the hacking target, I'll hold off to play this game until some new codes are made for it so I can use them while playing. I still never played the first w&w so I will first play that game.

That one had me going for a while too, back in the day. However... I can see a code... a code that prevents sliding. I don't know all the ramifications stemming such a code, but I can imagine a way to make you stick to a hill and to never slide. If the ground movement state can be found, of course.

I'll start a new Hacking Target thread sometime tonight or tomorrow, unless somebody gets to it before me. I might just contribute something

Edit: Scratch that last part, these things should be released on some sort of schedule... which means next Sunday

I figure the chances of two people creating the thread at the same time are fairly small (and an admin can always merge threads if that occurs), and once anyone creates the new thread, everyone will work together in that thread.

That way, it doesn't require an admin such as myself to remove the old poll, and create a new one each time. We can still use this thread to suggest new targets, and discuss the hacking targets in general, but we can move on to a new target and poll for the next one in the same thread, with the result of any one of us being able to make a new Hacking Target thread once Sunday hits and it's time to move on.

    Agree?
Sure, but everyone will have to choose who makes the new Hacking Target thread/poll. We don't need three different people trying to create the same thread
