Yeah, it's pretty interesting. Though I don't care for the PS3 being hacked as it will lead to online cheaters.

You can already hack via memory saves, it's not gonna get any worse unless someone or a company makes a cheat engine which I highly doubt since they've been banned on the xbox360, Sony will follow suite. I agree cheating online sucks unless your playing in group where your all cheating on a level playing field. I don't know why Sony and Microsoft don't just make one themselfs that can only be activated offline, it'd deter others from trying.

I don't know about cheat devices, but I've always wondered that too. There is nothing wrong with offline cheating. I'd even say that for split screen offline cheating, since you are sitting next to the people you are playing with and they must be aware that you are cheating.

It might just bug some developers too though. Some would be thinking "If people are just going to cheat, why are we even trying to make this challenging? They could just blaze through it with all guns and items, unlimited ammo, infinite health, and unlock everything from the start."

If you can cheat offline though, odds are somebody would mess with things and trick the system into always believing it is offline and then they would use it online.

That's why i think it should limited to single player or private lan usage your given the option of cheating on the startup menu and if you are cheating it should display a symbol next to your username all people in a private lan should have cheating enabled or disabled so everybody is on a level playing field that doesn't mean you have to cheat by default in-game though you can increase the difficulty by not cheating yourself against a group of cheaters you'll either be pawn'd or pawn them. The cheating option is deactivated for online mutiplayer by deafult and no option is displayed on the menu when you go online.

That comment about dev's is stupid you'll always get people who wanna complete the game the first day they buy it just to get fame among their peers instead of enjoying it and taking there time to complete a game they just spent £40 on. Unlimited ammo, infinite health, Unlock Everything is no worse than somebody reading a complete walkthrough imo, afterall it's buyers that own the game not the devs we should be able to do whatever we please with it including texture and 3d models mods.

Yep you'll always get a little fucker somewhere that wants to spoil it for everyone else but I think if they get caught hacking a game with online multiplayer they should be given bans in various stages of restriction. I'm sure the devs could lock out various parts of the game or specific memory regions that effect online multiplayer so they can't be hacked in the first place, sort of like disabling esc, alt+f4 or ctrl+alt+del so you can't return to the desktop from inside a pc game.

Sony Lawyers Crackdown on PS3 Jailbreak

By Rob Jones on Aug.27, 2010

It was only a matter of time.

Sony has obtained a court order barring the sale of the USB flash keys by an Australian company. The PS JAILBREAK mod allows the use of backup discs to be played on the PS3.

Sony obtained an injunction ordering Australian reseller Quantronics to halt sales and distribution of the device until the 31st of August.

Their site was selling the mod for a pricey $170, but now has the item listed as ‘no stock‘. According to PS3News.com, Quantronics has canceled preorders for PS3 Jailbreak and are refunding customers.

Another site listed in the court document, Ozmodchips, now has the modchip listed as sold out.

Meanwhile, CVG reports that Sony can detect players who are using the PS JAILBREAK mod and are hitting them with the Banhammer:

If you’re using the PSJailbreak and you get a ’8002A227′ error code, that’s apparently the sign of a right good banning.

Not a 'hack'... It's a USB device... The PS3 was designed to enter a service mode when the certain device was inserted into the USB port, so it's not a hack at all. And the save mods are modded saves, not hacks.

                Open Source PS3 Jailbreak Released

Posted by CmdrTaco on Thursday September 02, 12:09PM

Despite all the lawsuits and injunctions by Sony to keep the PS3 Jailbreak out of modder's hands, it appears that a third party has made a clone. The best part is, it only requires a cheap (approximately $40) development board by Atmel, and the requisite software is open-source.

Get the Atmel code from GitHub and apply a small patch which will enable backup play (the code by itself only lets you run unsigned code, the patch allows for BD backups). The code is GPLv3.

It would be highly ironic if someone ported this to Linux USB Gadgets, then you could use a Linux device to jailbreak your PS3, to which Sony removed Linux functionality. An Android phone would be suitable.
