Does anybody remember a Ocean collection game collection on the C64/128 that contained Golden Axe and three other games one was 4x4 monster driving game but I can't remember the name of it

Golden Axe wasn't an Ocean Game it was published by Virgin and from my recollection all Ocean compilations were generally all Ocean games with a odd exception. The only compilation with Golden Axe I could find is the the US Gold compilation "Super Sega" that contained these 5 games:

Crackdown
Eswat
Golden Axe
Shinobi
Super Monaco G.P.

What was the first cheating system on the c64 that or a Action Replay device?

I think the Action Replay gets far too much credit as a 'mother/parent' of cheat devices, it was a latecomer.

Finding release dates for carts is not that easy unfortunately, but I'm pretty sure Action Replay never existed to Action Replay III (it was a trick to make you think they had been around a while) and as a cartridge for finding cheats it was very poor indeed. Not till V4.0/4.1/4.2 + 6.0Pro were ALL released in 1988 was it actually any good.

I was using "The Expert" cartridge (c) Trilogic 1986 and to be honest that was better than the last C64 version of the Action Replay.


The first actual "cheat system" on the C64 was a paperclip though, use it to connect a few pins on the back of the C64 to reset it. Enter the pokes and restart the game with the SYS number. The AR3 would allow you to enter pokes without needing a SYS number (big deal!), a few games used reset volatile memory so the SYS number wouldn't always work with those games and there was a hard reset (using a cheap cartridge port reset switch) method for those games with CBM38 reset protection at 0x8000.
