  • Unexpected Inconsistancy

/usr: unexpected in consistency, RUN fsck MANUALLY
    (ie – without –a or –p options)
    <add more crap here>
<add something about HDA not mounting>
    <add command to remount>

<add note that CTR-D reboots. Restart and Shutdown dont work>

***An error occurred during the file system check
***Dropping you to a shell. The system will reboot
    ***When you leave the shell
    Give root password for maintenance
UNEXPECTED MY ASS. Damn fucking hard drive died. This has not become an unexpected inconsistency for me. every time i have booted the computer it always does a FSCK of my hda drive (a Western Digital 20GB IDE) when i boot and it has failed several times before. I am giving up on that drive and will loose my precious data to install an OS on a 80GB Maxtor drive. it will take me 4 hours to do this and i will have to remember some customization i did. including but not limited to editing some boot.h with a command to start asla (my sound). Then reinstall my repositories (and some).

    I am unhappy. >:-(

    any help would be appreciated.

Toss the new drive in, get a file system up and running, then run file recovery software on the old drive, and grab a limited amount of what you want directly to the new drive, or as much as you want to an external device that you can easily reformat.

The recovery software will have to be specific to the file system you're running, but there are free solutions around for certain ones. I know that losing data is a pain, but you'll have to be rather careful about how you go about dealing with the drive's data even if the recovery seems to work. Recovering files directly from my broken drive broke the replacement drive's file system about 3 times before I finally took the hint that I wasn't getting all of it back.

I'm actually rather surprised that if it's just a 20 gig drive, you didn't back the whole thing up to some other media. I've filled up an 80 gig external just with the essentials, and I'm still writing stuff to DVDs that I feel wouldn't be huge losses to go without.

A touch of research points towards using a Knoppix CD or DVD
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knoppix
    http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/li...y/l-knopx.html

I don't deal with these file systems regularly enough to need one of these tools yet, so you're pretty much at the mercy of Google for any more info.
This reality is mine. Go hallucinate your own.

If the drive acts up,its a clue to back your shit up and get a new drive,I had one that crashed totally and then when I got it to actually start it would always hang for a few seconds every couple of hours and click, and anything I had stored especially ISO or video files would get corrupt over time,so junk it as soon as it starts to happen.Hard Drives are cheap today so there is no excuse.

The sad thing is that i could not back the stuff up. So i am going to install a PowerPC distro of Linux (SUSE) this weekend and get an external enclosure for the old drive as well as a self powered USB hub <.<

Knoppix wont work on the PowerPC.

          sorry for the double post.

          GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRR

Found out the hard drive is dead. the noise it made when i had it in an enclosure was...
          click
          click
          whrrrrrrrrr
          click
          click
          click
          whrrrrrrrrr
          click
          whrrrrrrrrr
          click
          click
          click
          click
          whrrrrrrrrr

and to make matters worse my ARDS died (X_X#)

it randomly deleted my codes and it wont sync with the software on the PC anymore. Mother F!&Ker.

if there is a god of the computers he obviously hates me at the moment.

But i dont think Sticky Keys works on Linux let alone any Mac OS above 9.2.2.
