  • Nazi death camp trips for kids

SCHOOLKIDS will get free trips to Nazi death camps to learn about the horrors of the Holocaust.
Two students from every sixth-form and college in England will visit Auschwitz and Birkenau under a £5million scheme being unveiled by the Government today.
Up to 4,000 students aged 16-18 will fly to Poland on chartered jets each year between now and 2011.
They will tour the camps and see photos and belongings of some of the six million Jews murdered by Hitler’s henchmen.
The move will end rumours that lessons on the Holocaust are to be struck off the school curriculum.
Youngsters from a wide range of religious and ethnic backgrounds will be encouraged to go and it is hoped they will be “ambassadors” for fellow pupils on their return.

Schools Minister Jim Knight helped secure the funding after joining pupils on a trip to the camps last year.
Mr Knight said: “It had a very powerful effect on me.”

That's good education. They're 16-18, so it's not like they're little kids or anything, and it's not mandatory. At least they'll have a good idea of what went on, which could deter them from joining Neo-Nazi groups and such.

That's one of the most sane things I've seen related to the whole historical event. At this point, it seems like Germany is trying to completely erase their own past...

I think the Germans came a long way actually. Alot of them dropped Hitlers teachings and their reverence to him starting immediately after he died.

Hmm...I don't see why blacks, Asians, and Indians would complain about that. They're going to view atrocities, none of which were even visited upon any of them, but instead the Jews. If they do complain, unless they're doing so from an average person standpoint, and not that of a specific race or ethnicity, they're just being overly sensitive. Black History month in the US highlights events and atrocities that occurred during the times of slavery here, even as it talks about the present and future. If anything, it's good to be properly aware of how shitty things were at one point or another, to make sure you don't just take it for granted that other people fought and died to change it (though, in the case of slavery, I'd say it's questionable whether the North cared about the slaves so much as a bunch of other things).

Right. He was evil, and caused evil things to happen. There's nothing wrong with talking about that, or studying it. Hence, if they're offended, they're just being...well, daft, heh.

The sad thing is, if the parents hear the kids say Hitler was a great man(which is was), they'll be causing an uproar.

Eh, I guess. I doubt they'd say that, as he wasn't really a great man in any way but his ability to get millions of intelligent people to believe large amounts of lies.

Still, he might be an evil bastard(depends on your view) but you can't deny he was an impressive man.
