  • PSX Memroy Cards, issues, anyway to reformat and clean them

Okay ...errr a few of my PSX memory cards are getting and acting rather 'fruity' Not sure if it is the cards, the PSX system, or the game codes I have on. (well I sorta narrowed down darn soem codes not allowing 'quick access' to memory cards, on GSPro blahhhhh for Chrono Trigger, the 'equipment edits/mods' seem to not allow the best memory card access which is a problem but it gets to card after about 15 mins.

Anyway otherwise, I put in my 'older' memory cards and the PSX system says card none found. I wiggle it around, and it says it is there (20% of the time) I put it in PS2, and memory card not found, I again wiggle it around and it catches it all the time.

Also these are 'older' PSX memory card, the 1995 old ones that were blahhh gray, and small.... I mean not in block size small, I mean it has room they can be in the memory card slots and be 'wiggled' around like a loose tooth sorta thing.

I also got some 'new' PSX cards recently and seeing heck if I have to get more, they were cheap, blahhhh $10.00 for two, but still.... not sure 'why' the old ones fizz out, one the PSX unless they did just get too old?

Otherwise, anyway to 'reformat' the memory cards that are 'acting up'? then maybe they work like freash? As is of back-ups, I got all my saves moved to a PS2 card, and can and wish to 'swipe' and redo all the rest and hope that will make them better, otherwise please how to reformat and how to clean and not ruin and such please.

Again older memory cards, but do mean alot to me, yes the old ones are abit 'loose' in the slots, and maybe that is why, or maybe the PSX's that make em that way? Maybe also could have been corupt saves from some time ago? that is why I am seeking to reformat and clean and start these cards a new life.

Also, I say reformt, as because I have a few 'new' cards and I put them in my PS2 system and it said not formated, and asked if I wanted to format, and I said yes, the 'screey cards' I erased now, but never said anything about 'reformatting' them, so wondering where that coems from, maybe DexDrive which I have not used nor bothered with in a few years also  But just seeking, please...because now even these older erased cards it still says most times on the PSX systems, 'card not found' which is indeed not good.

About the only way to actually reformat a card involves writing an image of a formatted card directly, but requires something like an xploder/caetla/gs+comms link to do so. If the card isn't corrupted similar to what FF7 can do, some old games have reformatting features. The only game I can think of off the top of my head that can do this, is Die Hard Trilogy, which is something like 9 years old by now.

There's a pretty good chance that the problem is dirt on the contacts, but you'd have to open the memory cards up to clean them much at all. The contacts inside the controller ports are probably in worse shape than the cards themselves. The only way I know of to clean them, involves a really nasty thing that ends up with things in pieces, and a piece of the controller ports permanently removed... Not recomended, unless you know what you're getting in to.

Hmm... I think there's a prog that could do stuff with a dexdrive, but I can't remember what it's called. I'll try to find it.

Thank You, will look foward to anything you find.

And blahhh yeah darn memory cards, not sure if it is the cards that are all dirty or the connectors inside the PSX or other such mess, all I know it sorta like a loose tooth thing, wiggle it around and it comes up----sometimes.

Otherwise did not know if well, honestly, I did not know if I could just drop my memory cards into a small cup of alcohol...as is they say it cleans everything and kills any and all 'biological' things on it...but not sure that would truely also eat the card and kill it altogether so bahh

As is, I guess I could always go again as I said and by new cards, but blahhhh to 'replace' the ones giving me issues, even at a 2 for $10.00 price, that would be about $50.00 plus tax, a whole other game in today's times, and also a whole other 2 PSX systems.

Pain in the butt really...as I just recently 'repaired' my PSX systems where the whole spindle thing came apart, had to buy those and fix the mess, and now the memory cards or the card slots on the PSXs I have are getting 'iffy' and driving me nuts alot just keeping things going now, not so much with the money truely, more so just the stress of getting one thing fixxed now something else makes stress in my life. ahhh life.... and keeping ahold of the classic games I grew up with my teenage life loving.
