  • Haven't been Hacking.

My PSX kept freezing up after 6-8 hours of gameplay on just about all of my games, most recently on Xenogears and Kings Field 2.

So I broke down and bought a PS2, disconnected my PSX and put it in storage.

So.. I've been meaning to ask how do you hack codes on a PS2? I don't have a Code Breaker yet, so I know I'll need one of those. (Prolly the only way I'll ever get Wakkas Overdrives.. hates Blitzball..)

At this point, it seems people don't hack ps2 games, only CMX does. I believe it's possible to do if you've got an original interact GS, a dvd rom drive (as pretty much every game that's come out in the last 3 years is on dvd), and PS2DIS a program that's useful even for psx hacking. The problem is that you pretty much have to know a bit about mips asm...

There is also a ps2 emulator with some hacking useful features, but I doubt it runs very well, or that most people have a good enough comp to do so.

I might be wrong about all this, I don't have a ps2 myself, or any idea what recent developments toward hacking might be.

Did you get a PS2 or the 'new' PSTwo?

      I got a slim PS2..

Which I'll probally have to trade in if I ever get enough money to play/buy FF11 Online, since I guess the slim model doesn't support the HD/Internet.

          Odd.

The Guy at EBGames said I couldn't play FFXI cause the Slim Model doesn't support the HD/Modem.

So.. I was looking for my instruction manual for the dvd part and noticed it came with an online start-up disc.

So.. if it doesn't support the internet, then way the disc?

I think that guy was mistaken.

Well, yes, the 'new' slim PS2 systems are well...the 'same' pretty much as the PSOne systems were to the PSX. Best to stay with the originla while they are still around really.

I mean I do not know 'for sure' but just what I have heard about them really. #1 Ofcorse the harddrive does not work, sorta a stupid thing to do by Sony seeing as they all wanna sell all these HDs, but still, a slim one no good for that at all. #2 I heard 'claime' that some cheat devices do not sit too well with these new ones either. People with Code Breakers of any version, Action Replay and even GameShark 2 (which they oddly still sale as a code based cheat device  :? ) I have heard tell some 'small' lock ups getting all of these devices to work always. #3 The DVD drives, I heard as is a classic case with Sony, not made as 'good' anymore, after all cheaper parts, does quite mean a cheaper machine, no matter what price is paid for it. I have heard tell also these DVD drives lock up and such also. #4 I have also heard it said and complained about not 'all games' play on these new PS2 systems. I mean both PSX/PSOne titles and even some older PS2 titles.

Anyway, I would yes try to change quick from that slim one to a 'regular' PS2 anyway I could. I mean yeah I will not lie at all about anything, I just heard and read all this from Game Store friend employee's and from the net and such, but also PS2 the first one's had a few problems as well, but all of those were fixxed. The first PS2's would not play 'some' PSX/PSOne games, and the DVD drives would 'frizzle' out but the PS2's out there now still not slim would not have that problem anyway.

As for the 'net' thing, I do not know anything on that, I know the HD comes with 'quote' all you need to get online, however, not sure if the PS2 even surfs the net, I thought it was more a game thing, and just small bit of surfing til you reached their servers and games that are going on, but otherwise, I not heard the PS2 being like the DreamCast really. But again, I cannot be certain on that, I have a PS2, but no HD nor online capible.

Also, you sound like someone who very much loves to play his games alot, no this is not in anyway an insult to you, just a small thought, please do not take it the wrong way, but goodness, 6 to 8 hours of straite playing on your PSX? I mean again no disrespect, but that would seem to indeed burn up your systems. I mean I play games alot as well, well when I can that is, but soemthing even now like Resident Evil 4, I do as the game maunuels 'warn' to take a break ever so often. After 2 hours straite I do and would assume everyone needs a small break, yourself and yes your game systems. But just a thought.

              Haven't been Hacking.

This reminds me so much about what happened to the original PS... First they remove the parallel port and shrink down the motherboard to make it cheaper, and replace some metal parts with plastic. Then they go and make the PSOne, which doesn't have an internal power supply, and probably isn't as well made as the pre-900x model ones. Now there's the PSTwo, which claims on the commercials to be 'more capable', but that's not quite true because despite it's having built in ethernet, and supposedly can handle CDRW/DVDRW discs, can't use the HD they pretty well screwed up on handling. And if I remember, the new model is a pop-top drive, and those are much cheaper to make than the better tray style. Hmm... I ought to get off my ass and buy a PS2 before they're all sold out.
