KNAC use to be a hard rock station based in Long Beach California. It was known for the style of music they played (Metal) which helped develop the cult following they currently have.

Just reviving a good topic...

Recently, I've been listening to a lot of Muse from my brother's stack of music, and quite frankly, I think they're the best New Age rock I've heard. They make this really great blend with their instruments to compose fluent sound and communicate a certain mood as the lyrics are sung in the song. There's really good balance, and their music is just plain good to listen to. Not to mention, they're very dynamic and don't tend to stay in any one distinguishable genre, because between "Starlight", "Supermassive Black Hole", and "Assassin" (<- Only an alright song, mind you), you don't really have any direct classification. Great stuff, though.

Also, beyond "Highway Star", I've listened to some Deep Purple in the past months, and I'm sure my favorite by them entail "Space Truckin'" and "Strange Kind of Woman"...Nothing too deep about them; they're just good sound.

Also, I may be babbling, but I really like Explosions in the Sky. No singing, they're just strictly instrumental. Great music, though. It really helps me fall asleep sometimes. This isn't to say that it's boring in any way, but their music is incredibly relaxing and have consistent structure so that you're not thrown off guard. It's also great for studying (not that I care to, though, other than History) if you're bored out of your mind (like shoot-yourself-in-the-head kind of bored).
