    A new book from Peter Leigh, otherwise known as The Nostalgia Nerd on his popular YouTube channel, details the history of the home gaming system.

    The man with over 200,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel takes readers from 1972's Magnavox Odyssey and right up to the Xbox 360 released in 2005.

    The first example of what would later come to be called electronic gaming was built in 1912, in Spain, and was called "La Ajedrecista", which translates to "The chess player" in Spanish. It featured a classic chess endgame: you had control of a king, and the "computer" had control of a king and rook. It was even sophisticated enough to detect illegal moves, and would shut down after you attempted to cheat 3 times.
    Tempus fugit, ergo, carpe diem.
