IGN's Editor-In-Chief Fired Over 'Alleged Misconduct'

Steve Butts, longtime editor-in-chief at the gaming website IGN, has been let go over “alleged misconduct.”

“IGN initiated an investigation into alleged misconduct involving Steve Butts. As a result of the investigation, the Company has appropriately determined to part ways with Mr. Butts,” said IGN general manager Mitch Galbraith.

Note that it isn't the first time a case of harassment has been reported at the company. Back in November, former IGN employee Kallie Plagge accused her former co-worker Vince Ingenito of sexually harassing her and another woman. “The harassment (and horribly mishandled HR investigation) was a major factor in leaving IGN,” she wrote. “I have carried the disgust, fear, and disrespect with me since.”

IGN co-founder and chief content officer Peer Schneider will take over as editor-in-chief on an interim basis for “however long it takes”, he tells Polygon.

Oh God harassed by Butts!

No surprise, the problem is everywhere. It looked like a supervisor at my previous hellhole workplace was doing that to the young girls that came in, and others in higher positions might have done the same.


At the job before that, I didn't know my 2nd boss was doing that unless after the place got shut down. It started with 1 very kind and friendly lady breaking out in tears and calling the cops and me being baffled. I was going to rain hell down on him until I watched his little interview with the cops and he seemed 100% genuine and honest and oblivious to the accusations, and he seemed far too kind and friendly for it making me unbelievably confused. Then months or years later he gets another accusation from somebody I don't know and I had to go through security footage only to find no signs of a problem even though what I needed for real verification was in a room without cameras. Nobody looked even slightly distressed or anything entering or leaving the room, but 2 accusations is looking quite bad. Months or years later again, he has to deal with the cops from another lady, and he seemed to think it was a funny text message to send the comment "Oh yeah, I guess I raped someone again.". We nearly walked out right then and there out of anger until he got in there and explained this BS, which he seemed completely lost again. It wasn't until the place got shut down and he did a blackout drunk phone call he had the recollection of doing that solidified the fact that he was a blackout drunk piece of garbage that harassed women, and the reason he's oblivious to it is because it's only when he's blackout drunk so he can give an honest "What????" response to things because he really had no recollection or knowledge that it happened. I hope the guy's dead or in prison these days.


When I was in the nuthouse, 1 girl and 1 guy had the same situations where they had to sleep with their bosses at Taco Bell and McDonalds too or give poverty and homelessness a try.


It's everywhere like a cancer, and not much you can do about it unless the predators have a high enough count of people they've done it to where they can all come together and file complaints. With that situation it's basically the word of the higher-ups with tenure who are good buddies with everybody against the word of the lowest level employees that get crap treatment and shamed, and you already know who's been winning over 99% of the time.


I'm still rolling my eyes that the guy's name is Butts.

I went to school with a guy named George Butts.

One of my oldest brother's previous girlfriends had the last name Butts too. It's also goofy my 2nd oldest brother's wife's last name was Longerbone too.
