  • Front Page & Downloads? Ideas and such, maybe?

umm is this supposed to happen or is it my PC or something? I am now getting this page everytime I come here from my favorites:

If you're seeing this, your browser doesn't like being redirected. In which case, go here to see the main page:

    TheGSHI.org - Main Page

Not sure if this is because o e stufou al v en oing on here, or my PC... I have all possible windows updates, and a few wiondows patches for such things, and windows updates says I am all clear and nothing avalible for my system. (Other then all that language support optional mess) anyway not sure... as at times, it seems each time I turn my PC off and back on (not always the safe way, but anyway) sometimes when I do that, it says 'updating hardware' and such and I have not added anything so not really sure on what all is going on with that.

Also and otherwis, I am was wondering about the downloads section and such, and wondering if we have 'space' do you all think it would be a good idea to add a few things to downloads? Like the free yet good viruss protectors and spyware kilelrs and such? I am thinking AVG, as it is free, and pretty darn good, well I think it is, AdAware from LavaSoft which is alsofree, and kills spyware (not all but is still pretty good) and CWShredder which is well sorta give and take free, like free if you have a passcode sorta thing. (Also note that CWShredder, is really good, I think, it found a stupid trogan horse on my system just a week ago that was causing pop-ups, even though I have a pop up blocker, something that AdAware would not find and such...so I do think it is pretty good, plus is a small file, so no need for alot of space on that one.)

Anyway, just wondering if that is an idea, I have not checked downloads in awhile, heck we may have such files, u f do nt I'd think if is 'safe' to have them, it'd be pretty good, for the community, and for those of us who seem to blow their PCs ever so often. :P

I also wonder about 'other' good things, like pop-up blockers, and such anything else that makes net life easy and safe and causes alot less hassels. Maybe?

Also another quick question...err I had more then one, but I forgot them all, thinking more on those 'safty' programs and naming them, but will post it in an edit or such when I do remember. Anyway, I know 'favorites' are saved and kept as HTML files more or less...anyway, is there a place or a neat way to back them up?

---ahh yeah heh I rememebr the other question now, and it is, err how do you create a user back up o or PC? I have all things installed, mostly and alot I do not wanna go all the way back through, I am aware of user back ups, but just wanna make sure when I pop in the restore CD I do not erase all my mess again...as you pop the restore CD in and a 4 by 4 disc to create a user back-up/restore, so just makign sure so I do now 'mess it up' sorta.

:? ahh yes, also...err anyone know how I can 'copy' a music CD file back onto my PC? I know it has 'changed' into 'wav' format, when burning CDs from my collection I used to have that I lost when my PC blew the heck and back, but still, is there a way to copy the file back to PC?

I tried the basic simple copy and paste but that does not work too good, seems it only creates a shoutcut like thing and 'claims' to need the CD to even play the file, so wondering otherwise how to 'rip' my own created Music CDs...and seeing as it is all CDRs anyway and ones I made to start with, well it is not in anyway illegal at all, just wish a few music files on my PC for other reasons and also because well, after awhile even CDRs seem to get rather faulty....

I'd guess, that you saved something like http://gshi.watnet.blacklotus.net/index.html as that favorite. It's supposed to send you automatically to the current main page which is now http://gshi.watnet.blacklotus.net/index.php

So, yes, that is supposed to happen, I just wish didn't have to be. I'm going to try to fix it on monday... But after I fix the problem, your favorite will probably show an error message.

As far as those ideas for downloads, I'll look into it. I'm not sure at all how much space there is, or if it'd make sense to have copies of those sort of programs here, and not just links to the sites that they come from.

It's pretty easy to backup favorites, but I don't remember how to do it... I know it has something to do with export, but I'm not sure where that might be located.

I don't know much about making backups like that...

I think I remember SephiRon having found something that'd let you just copy & paste like that, and it'd turn into a .wav file. But that was awhile ago, and probably wouldn't work very well if the disc was a bit scratched.
The program I use, if I want to rip CDs, is EAC ( http://www.exactaudiocopy.de I think). It can rip just about any cd, no matter how scratched up it is, as long as the top side isn't damaged too much in important places. It's gotten easier to use, pretty much to the point that if you follow the directions for setting it up that it has, it'll work perfectly.

There are other programs for doing that, but EAC is probably the best one that runs under windows.

I always used CDEX for extracting audio into MP3 or WAV format, but after I moved to XP, it stopped performing very willingly, so I now use it and another program, but I'd say it should be easier for you to just go with what Liquid recommended.

If you want to back up Favorites, just go to the folder Favorites, which is either under C:\Documents and Settings\[Your Username] (if you're using Windows XP), or under C:\Windows (if you're using one of the earlier versions of Windows), go into the folder Favorites itself, and burn a copy of all of the links therein. I usually just make a folder called Favorites on my backup disc, and burn them to there. Then, whenever you need to restore them, just delete all the crap that Windows has undoubtedly thrown into Favorites, and copy and paste your backups straight into the original folder.
        I may be lazy, but I can...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ...
