As we all know North Korea set off a small nuclear war head Monday in an underground test.
On a linux network that I am a part of we got into a discussion then followed by an argument of "if" and "when" nuclear war will happen. I've had people tell me that it will never happen in our life time. Others say who knows? With all the threats comming from other countries into the United States, I will admit it does have me a bit frightened. The number one most big threat that the United States has is North Korea. With them setting off "small" nuclear war heads how do we not know that maybe in a day, two weeks, 3 months, or even 10 years if they do launch a warhead.
So I started to do some research on what will happen when or even if nuclear war beings. The first thing that will happen in the nuclear explosion would be heat and shockwaves. ALOT of heat and shockwaves. So if we don't die immediatly from that then Radioactive Fallout just might. First would be Local Fallout. How shall I describe this with out getting too technical. I'm too lazy to be technical right now. Basically local fallout would be the downwind of nuclear radiation. It has been estimated that an attack on U.S. population centers by 100 weapons of one-megaton fission yield would kill up to 20 percent of the population immediately through blast, heat, ground shock and instant radiation effects (neutrons and gamma rays); an attack with 1,000 such weapons would destroy immediately almost half the U.S. population. These figures do not include additional deaths from fires, lack of medical attention, starvation, or the lethal fallout showering to the ground downwind of the burst points of the weapons. Also if that didn't scare the fuck out of you: The most serious threat is cesium-137, a gamma emitter with a half-life of 30 years. It is a major source of radiation in nuclear fallout, and since it parallels potassium chemistry, it is readily taken into the blood of animals and men and may be incorporated into tissue.
Just the first part scares me.
The third part would be Worldwide affects of Nuclear Fallout. In simple terms the MASSIVE Radiation bubble that will surround Earth and all the birth effects and shit like that. If it doesn't kill your ass first.
There is still much more research to do on this. Some say that we will fall into a "Nuclear Winter" where then this will be or has rumored to be the "Second Ice Age" Then some say after "Nuclear Winter" there might be a high chance for a "Nuclear Summer" With blazing tempetures over 80C (176F) That's fucking hot. Nothing I mean nothing will be living in this type of climate.
One of my favorite movies is Wargames it's scarey to see now that it's not that much farther from the truth. It honestly and seriously scares the fuck out of me.
To think with in a matter of milliseconds we could all be dead. We could be sitting here eating our Nachos then the next millisecond we will be dead. Just dust no bodies nothing left.
