Comedian Charlie Murphy dead at 57 after leukemia battle

Charlie Murphy, Chappelle Show star and older brother of Eddie Murphy, has died, publicist Domenick Nati told The Hollywood Reporter. He was 57.

Murphy died from leukemia on Wednesday, Nati said.

Murphy became a household name through Dave Chappelle's Comedy Central skit show thanks to his amazing stories of interactions with other celebrities during the height of his brother's fame in the 1980's. The most popular short turned into a skit about Rick James.

I didn't know he was Eddie Murphey's older brother. It's a bummer, he was definitely funny in Chapelle's show.

That seems impossible to miss, really. It was preamble to the most famous sketches he was involved in.

Yeah. I give a pass on that, though. Personally, I hadn't thought about Eddie Murphy in years when this was out, and it didn't click. When it was revealed on the show, the resemblance was immediately striking, but I know I probably wouldn't have put it together without at least a hint.
