  • Hacking Vs. Playing Skyrim?

I've been very conflicted lately. I love hacking. Its awesome being able to find things that you normally can't find in a game through normal playing.

While Skyrim has been out for the PS3 & Xbox 360 for quite some time now, I've picked it back up, playing it since my brother bought the remastered version for his PS4. It is amazing at how much time goes by when I play that game. I can play the game for an hour & not even get anything accomplished.

Right now, I'm trying to find a way to beat The Ebony Warrior. I've never dealt with a tough enemy like that. One time, a dragon started attacking him, I brought a follower (J'Zargo) along, & even conjured an atronach & began attacking him at the same time. He easily killed the Legendary Dragon, was able to kill off my Frost Atronach, then quickly killed me before killing off my follower.

I'm at Level 82 & have on all Dragon Plate Armor, I even have my follower dressed up in Dragon Plate Armor. The fact that Dragon Bone Arrows don't do much damage, & that this guy can kill easily with just one hit of an arrow or swipe of the sword, makes him extremely difficult to beat.

Not to mention, one of my friends told me about the Fortify Restoration Glitch, which enables you to get massively powerful weapons, armor, & enchantments to do massive damage to enemies, enable you to take massive damage, or even allow your health or magicka to regenerate super quick. That's better than the hidden chests & Do Not Delete chest glitches they have in the game. Of course, using a platter to go through walls, or to escape jail cells is always fun to do.

I know there are mods for this game & the one before it, Oblivion, but how fun would it have been if they still made the Codebreaker, Game Shark, or the Game Genie for the Xbox 360 or PS3 systems? The only thing I wish could be done, is when a shop keeper character gets killed, that they could be resurrected so you could continue buying stuff from their shop. Unfortunately, in my game, many of the people in Whiterun have been killed. The husband & wife shopkeepers that run the weapons shop, both got killed off by vampires, I'm not sure how the general goods shopkeeper, Belethor died, but I looted his coffin, & the wizard in Dragonsreach unfortunately fell to my blade because he tried attacking me after I offed the guards attempting to arrest me (with the large 30,000+ gold bounty I had on my head). Even when I walk into the Drunken Huntsman & the other pub in Whiterun, everyone tries rushing to attack me as soon as I walk in. I generally have to cast a Pacify spell to keep everyone temporarily under control.

My dilemma is I wish I could do both get back to attempting to hack my PS2 games & play Skyrim at the same time. I've been ordering more PS2 games for my system, but just haven't been doing a whole lot since picking up the 360 controller.
Hacking games is always fun because you don't know what's hidden in the game.

If I'm not getting it wrong, CMX made Codebreaker for the PS2, and he also made CodeFreak for the PS3 which got ripped off by PS3UserCheat whose thing got cracked and released for free to work on firmwares 3.55 and lower and then some group stole that and made it work for higher firmwares and charged for that too. It's been weird.

People have been playing with mods on the PS3 version since the PS3 was hacked. I didn't try too many mods but every single mod I did try worked fine on the PS3 version of the game.

That Ebony Warrior is well known to many people. I had used potions and enchantments to forge my heavy dragon equipment the strongest it can possibly be throughout the game, and I can't remember the rest but since I went with having everything maxed I managed to beat him.

The type of arrow you use is inconsequential unless you're roaming around with an unimproved Longbow or something.

I don't know. I never had any real trouble with the Ebony Warrior. By level 60 you're pretty much a god, and he doesn't show up until you hit, what 70 or 80? Sure, he's like 80 himself or maybe 90, and actually has some perks and good enchanted equipment, but unless you got to 80 by constantly using "Legendary" on the Alchemy tree, the tools should be there. Although, if you're doing challenge mode where you improve nothing and only take the enchantments you can find, it may be a lot more difficult. I usually do that early in the game (on the PC I have mods that also make crafting loops impossible, set fortify crafting potions to be loot-only), but by level 50-60 being nigh unkillable but needing 10 hits to take down a Draugr Deathlord gets boring, so I start improving and enchanting.

Anyway, in the unmodded game you can pump potions, do crafting loops, exploit the Amulet of Talos glitch, etc., etc. IIRC he won't actually start to fight until you attack him, so you can always just get behind him and back-stab for an advantage. You can do the hidden Karstag quest on Solstheim for a world-beating summon power too, although that fight is technically supposed to be more difficult than the Ebony Warrior. If you're doing a Legendary challenge run with no crafting and only honorable combat or something, you could try save-scumming and whacking him with Mehrune's Razor. I think he's susceptible to its one-hit kill effect.

Get the PC version, Big Bossman. Use Tsearch and Cheat Engine to hack infinite life. I did this on Oblivion and wound up hacking and playing that game almost every day for 2 years.

When I was at about Level 66, I decided to make my Alteration skill legendary by using the Detect Life spell to rapidly advance many levels. I found the best place to do this right in the entry way of The Blue Palace after the Stormcloaks take over. There are several bodies that appear when you do that both in the Jarl's throne room, down below in the basement where the other Jarls & their assistants are in hiding at, plus the few guards that are in the area.

As for the type of bow I use, I have a Dragonbone Bow with a Fire enchantment. My favorite means of attacking most enemies is hit them with a Paralyze spell, & use a sword attack while they are down.

I'm going to try using the Fortify Restoration / Enchantment loop, once I gather the necessary ingredients.

One thing I wish they kept in the Skyrim game is the Bound spell or Bound enchantment. One thing I loved doing in the Oblivion game was making numerous enchanted items with extra added weight. I've sneaked up on some NPCs & put the some of the bound items on them, which would cause them to act as if they are carrying too much weight. It was also effective against some of the guards, usually, when they'd get the item, they would equip it instantly & would drop their armor first, making them easier to kill. I also liked being able to create spells.

Any chance you've encountered any real bad bugs with Skyrim?

I had the Legendary Edition US disk for my PS3 and there was a game breaking glitch that ruined it for me. I did every single mission that wasn't a part of the first/last/previous/whatever dragonborn DLC, so I also did the vampire DLC missions to the end taking the vampire chick's side on everything. When there was not 1 mission left of the main game or any other DLC, I started that dragonborn DLC. A few missions in you get this special sword that you swing causing a red wave of force to come out. You need that to open a rock door entrance. My game was broken from lag, I was swinging that sword every way imaginable for over 20 minutes, lost patience and watched a youtube video of how it really should be working, and then never played Skyrim again out of anger. That's too much time wasted for a game breaking lag bug.

Quest-breaking bugs happen all the time. That one only kind of rises to the level of game-breaking because it'll leave you stuck in Bloodskaal Barrow if you can't get it to work. Hell, I think the first real side-quest I took on after progressing the main quest to the point of needing to go to High Hrothgar was that Vaermina one in Dawnstar. Elrandir (I think) said we had to go to the tower's library, and never moved, other than limbering up his shoulders while he stayed rooted to his spot at the bottom of the stairs. I kept reloading and trying again, always with the same results. Eventually I just used a combination of standing in his personal space, and Unrelenting Force shouts to back him up the stairs, and he finally woke up when I got him close to the door.

There've been other times when I had to use the console to advance quests, or to work around bugs in other ways. That's even with the unofficial bug fix patches. I can't imagine trying to play on a console.

I remember not being able to start the Dawnguard quest "Lost to the Ages" no matter how many times I read "Aetherium Wars". It also wouldn't start via console commands, so that one annoyed the hell out of me. I started a new character to try again, and nothing. Then, for no discernible reason, it worked with my next character, and I've never had any trouble since. I even reported the bug to the unofficial patch guys, and they couldn't reproduce it, despite it being 100% consistent for me, so there was no fix ever created for it. Bethesda's shit is weird.

The occasional glitches that I encounter on my Xbox 360 is that sometimes when I'm trying to get up a mountain or cliff, I'll try jumping up to get to a certain area rather than looking for a pathway. Sometimes my character will get stuck in a crevice & I'll have to load from my last save / auto save point.

The other glitch is that sometimes when I'm playing for a while, the game will just freeze up from time to time. This'll happen to me generally when I've played for a few hours. I think it has something to do with the amount of saves & auto saves. I generally will delete the previous saves & do a new save.

Those aren't exactly game breaking glitches, they can just be frustrating. I managed to get the Dawnguard, Hearthfire, & Dragonborn DLC, then it got to where it would freeze upon loading. Once I tried playing the game while hooked to the internet, it downloaded an update, which fixed that glitch. Until I tried that, I thought all was lost.

After seeing many of the shop keepers die in Skyrim mostly because of Vampire attacks, I've wondered if there was a way to have the dead NPC's resurrected. After doing a search on Youtube, I found that its possible to access the Dead NPC Room in the PC version. There's nothing special about it other than it having weird colors, being cross-shaped, with a pile of dead bodies, & two coffins. I wish there was a way to access it on the console versions.
