  • Amazon's Black Friday deals start today

Amazon is getting a head start on the busy season, opening up its first holiday deals tonight as part of its Black Friday Deals store.

Don't expect many of the big ticket deals that headline actual Black Friday sales, though for those looking to get some items off their holiday wish lists you may find decent deals. Amazon says it will be offering "tens of thousands of deals" with new deals coming "as often as every five minutes."

Amazon will be running its Black Friday shop through Dec. 22.

So they are doing mega discount black friday deals from now until December 22nd? I'm hoping this boots them in the behind, black friday just needs to go away forever instead of spread out further and further. I can see a Futurama joke much like their X-Mas joke of having never heard of Christmas except for Fry, except he says "Thanksgiving" and they all correct him and say "You mean Black Friday?" because it's spreading more every year to the point where we might as well get rid of Thanksgiving and just have a 2 month long black friday I guess. Leela could explain to Fry that it's just 2 solid months of a complete deathmatch with others for a reduced price on an item, and make the joke go even farther saying entire planets fight and it's become the Olympics of deathmatch. Perfect thing to go in a Futurama episode somehow.

I agree, Black Friday has gotten way out of hand.

Well, this is mostly Black Friday in name only. My issue with Black Friday isn't that an online retailer will give me $50 off on a Kindle if I happen to order it during the right 4 hour time frame. It's that the "early access" deals start in the evening on Thursday, and people camp out and trample each other for "door-buster" deals in the wee hours of Friday morning.

Amazon has been doing this for several years now. Although, I'm not sure if it's always started this early. Really it's just a series of time-limited sales. It's still consumerism and trying to turn a buck on the holiday season, and some people do camp certain deals, in a virtual way, but it's not quite the same as the physical Black Friday debacle we have every year.
