Microsoft enables video game pre-orders in Windows Store

Windows 10 users can now pre-order video games through the Windows Store.

I can never bring myself to pre-order a game. Every one of them feels like I'm paying money to become an unofficial beta tester, then they keep updating it until hopefully they are no longer beta, which isn't always the case. If this was pre-ordering in the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox era, I'd be confident the game is done, but PS3 era and beyond are just getting worse with the generations by excitedly announcing a game years in advance, then rushing it out the door half done making people feel special they pre-ordered it who then basically report the absurd amount of bugs that hopefully they'll fix by the time they complete it and call it some special whatever game of the year something or other edition if they don't have too much to do with other projects, and then you've basically been tricked into being a beta tester for $60 or more.


As interesting and fun as the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games are, Bethesda is by far the worst offender in that department.
I place no confidence in pre-ordering these days, if they want beta testers they can pay me to find their bugs or at the very least admit they are using people as early beta testers. I payed for a full working game, not to be tricked into being a bug reporter.


About the only games I would give such confidence to these days are ones that were made in Japan, they have a far better record than any other country where games are made of making them as polished as it gets.


I'd also make an exception for the God Of War creators, they weren't crapping out patches like diarrhea (Black Ops 3 on PS4 split screen still won't even start and I think we are 16 patches in or more in 10 months since release with not a single one working). The God Of War group have made long, complex, and beautiful games so far with massive file sizes compared to most games with no real bugs at all that I can even think of ever encountering, and hopefully the next stays like that too. I can't think of any other group outside of Japan I'd lend that confidence to.
