  • Facebook announces that it will bypass ad blockers

In an attempt to increase revenues from ads on its platform, social network Facebook announced Tuesday that it will disable ad blocker plugins for users connecting to its service from a computer, but the social giant also promised more tools for users to manage the ads they see as reported by the NYT.
“We’ve designed our ad formats, ad performance and controls to address the underlying reasons people have turned to ad blocking software,” Facebook’s VP of advertising Andrew Bosworth said in a statement. “When we asked people about why they used ad blocking software, the primary reason we heard was to stop annoying, disruptive ads. As we offer people more powerful controls, we’ll also begin showing ads on Facebook desktop for people who currently use ad blocking software.”

Facebook is big and it's size will work against it. We'll have an adblocker solution to counter this probably within the first 2 days.

Facebook rolls out code to nullify Adblock Plus’ workaround

Apparently it took two days for Adblock Plus to come up with the workaround, and only a fraction of that time for Facebook to disable it.

[Update: A source says Facebook is now rolling out the code update that will disable Adblock Plus workaround. It should reach all users soon.]

Still, the cat-and-mouse game is sure to rage on.

So Facebook's Mr. "VP of advertising Andrew Bosworth" asked and learned that people hate those annoying disruptive junkers making every page load much slower and process slower and "everything" slower while looking ugly and taking over entire pages? The answer sounds simple, get rid of them.

People who fight for having ads should be forced to only be able to use the internet through a slow dial-up connection on a farm out in the middle of nowhere miles away from humanity with a old piece of crap computer that was the basic $200 pc back in 2001. If they don't just shut off the computer forever, they'll quickly be getting themselves some ad-blockers. People who don't need to put up with the crap they enforce upon others should have no right to a say in the argument, either they can suffer through it too or be allowed no say. That guy better be using a piece of crap computer going to ad-riddled websites that make things a maze or he can shut up and admit "we need money and the way we are going to be getting it is by crapping on every customer".

Facebook is Big Brother. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength. 1984 has come in the year 2016, and George Orwell is rolling over in his grave.

Time flies, therefore, seize the day.

I don't fully hate Facebook, I haven't used it in about 4 or more years. I do remember when I was stuck on a farm with the $200 basic computer in 2001 using dial-up internet because there was no other option, had that for 8 years. I can honestly tell you that you will be using an ad-blocker or your internet experience is going to take about 20x longer than it needs to be now that it's practically downloading 1-10 different 0:15-1 minute long movies to scatter on every page before it even loads the page. How long did I want to wait for a page to load? 1 minute or more than 20 minutes? I picked the 1 minute, ad-blockers weren't as good back then but anything was better than nothing. It wasn't even the internet that was the full issue, the computer couldn't process the multiple movies going per page and nearly froze the computer at times so if you were playing a game of cards or something on the computer while waiting, that would be hopelessly lagged to death too.

My current 6 year old computer still can't even correctly handle 720 videos, it lags to death too so I still need an ad blocker.
