Phil Spencer of Xbox said that? I haven't bothered to see what they have for disabled people in the video, but you know what really can help the disabled and make games more accessible?
1. Allowing game modification. Can't do that button masher or button combo and the game has no way of skipping it? Flashing lights triggering seizures and no option to disable them? Grossed out by videogame blood or other bizarre things and no options to change them? Game buggy and broken, can't even be completed? Game made so hard that it's impossible? Game not in a language you know? Let people like me mod them and all of that crap they haven't got the time of day to do because they are run like a business which borderline guarantees complete crap and people will make it happen. Need evidence, look at Bethesda pc games and their "Unofficial" fixes not by anybody involved in making it. Even more, hop on romhacking.net and look at the endless free game translations people have done in their free time, with some even doing so awesome they even recruited people to do voices and stuff. The only thing giving it a bad name are those that cheat online, and with how common it is you'd think somebody would try experimenting with separate servers that allow modification and servers that do not because not everybody cheats against others so much as they have fun hosting a game playing with low gravity and fast movement speed and other little things to make a boring clone of a clone actually fun for the whole server. Did Sony ever release their PS3 sales right around the time the PS3 was jailbroken around January 2011 because I'd be interested to see if they increased for more than just Christmas sales.
Nintendo needs the hardest boot up their behinds for this, they started as the kings and everybody kind of followed them and tried to copy them. Sega was for it, Sony's been "iffy" and just follows the crowd even though they were a bit for it over time, and Microsoft are robots and want your money but will act like they are listening and care.
2. Customizable controllers, a little bit more than Xbox's "Elite Pro Kit" thing. I remember them blocking and disabling Datel controllers and stuff. Somebody must have been really pissed about using those turbo settings and macros to get past those button mashers and special button sequences to disable controllers. It's weird, but Microsoft disabled any controller that wasn't theirs. Disabled controllers. Just amazing. I don't know the history of how far back turbo settings and macros and whatever else go on controllers, but the farthest back I know is Super Nintendo making this over 20 years of people wanting it and getting shut down for it the entire way. People have made their own cool racing chairs and all kinds of things. Could you imagine how many interesting controllers probably could have been made for the Wii?
3. Not having a bunch of consoles with exclusives to choose from. Only the rich can obtain everything they want, and they are vanishing with their riches going to other rich people like parasites.
I just completely ignore what Microsoft says, mostly hype and not worth paying attention to junk. We need a fix for the free speech amendment, an amendment so lying posers either learn to deliver what they promise to the masses or are required to shut up. When you hear "The best things in life are free", it applies to things like romhacking.net where games will get fixed, enhanced, translated, and tools made to modify the game and it's all done by people that do it for free. It definitely doesn't apply to businesses and their robotic deadlines and quality assurance and whatever else while at sometimes having absolutely no consideration for the customer. They make a piece of garbage, hype it up, take your money, and no refunds, it's a legalized theft.Last edited by bungholio; 05-22-2016, 11:37:36 AM.
