Sony has officially announced that the PlayStation VR will be released in Oct. 2016 and will sell for $399.

The company made the announcement during a press event at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco on Wednesday.

Sony originally stated that the PlayStation VR headset would launch during the first half of 2016.

However, last month, GameStop CEO Paul Reines let slip that it will be released during the fall season.

"That is a bit later than the time frame we previously stated, and I would want to thank everyone for their patience and continued support," CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Andrew House said in the press release.

"PlayStation VR represents a transformative experience in gaming, and we wanted to take the time needed to launch with a broad variety of content and a sufficient supply of hardware," he added.

In addition to announcing the release date of the PlayStation VR, Sony also revealed all the contents included in the package.

The VR headset comes with the processor unit, a connection cable, an HDMI cable, a USB cable, stereo headphones, an AC adapter and a power cord, according to Polygon.

Though the PS VR comes at a cheaper price compared to its main rivals, there's one catch: the headset will not come with the PlayStation Camera or the Move Controllers.

The exclusion of the PS Move Controllers is fine, but the Camera is a piece of hardware required for the PS VR to work.

The PlayStation Camera is responsible for tracking the LED's on the headset, Move wands and even the DualShock 4 controllers.

Basically, users who are interested in purchasing the PlayStation VR should also buy the PS Camera if they don't have one.

As for games, House stated that there are more than 230 developers already working on content for the headset.

The CEO says that they expect to have more than 50 games available by the time PlayStation VR launches in October.

One of the games that will be exclusively released for the PlayStation VR is EA's "Star Wars: Battlefront," PlayStation announced earlier today in a tweet.

Meanwhile, Sony promised that those who will purchase the PlayStation VR will also be able to download Playroom VR from the PlayStation Store for free.

Playroom VR will include six games ready to play by PS VR users.
