  • Enough of your crap, Street Fighter V rage quitters

You better get your finger off that Ethernet cable, because Capcom is no longer going to suffer people who pull the cord on their Internet.

The publisher has revealed today some of the first steps its going to take to counter rage quitters in its Street Fighter V fighter. Like any online competitive game, the new Street Fighter has a problem with people quitting early by disconnecting data cables or turning off their router to avoid taking a loss. This is driving honest players mad because it also means they do not get the win.

To deal with this, Capcom says it’s developing a system to spot people who have a high rate of disconnecting from matches, and it will then use that evidence to punish those players. Having processes in place to deal with this kind of cheating is crucial for a highly competitive game like Street Fighter V because it is all about how you stack up against the competition. And players may get discouraged and lose engagement if they feel like they are getting screwed out of a fair win.

Capcom took to its blog to reveal exactly what it has in the works. Previously, the company was asking its community to provide video proof that someone was rage quitting, but that’s changing. And the publisher revealed how the new system is going to work.

“We’ve been working hard with the SFV server team to put together a process to pinpoint users who are clearly abusing the system,” reads the post. “And we’re happy to announce that we can now do this without any proof of video. We will be punishing players on a weekly basis who have extremely high disconnect rates coupled with unrealistic win rates.”

The penalty is a significant reduction to the offending player’s League Points. This is how the Capcom Fighter Network figures out where you fit in the fighting game’s ranked mode. Going forward, Capcom says it will make a sweep each week looking for people who match its rage-quit criteria.

“To be clear, we are only targeting the worst offenders in our system, so if you have had a few instances of being disconnected during a match, you have nothing to worry about,” reads the blog. “The players who fit the criteria of what we would call a “Rage Quitter” typically have an 80 percent to 90 percent disconnect rate and their accounts sit far outside of the norm as compared to the majority of other players.”

So keep those Cat5 cables plugged into the wall, friends.

If the fucking lobbies were hosted on dedicated servers, they could properly count wins and losses. No, let's keep using this bullshit player hosted system that ALWAYS gives host an advantage and makes it difficult to track who's disconnecting, and require human interaction to deal with the worst of the worst...until they move on to another project and don't have time for it. If the fucking game was coded properly people wouldn't be using the same exploit that they've used on other games for years.

I remember afew years back I was playing Super Street Fighter 4 online and every time I was about to win against a certain online player the internet disconnected but when he was about to win it never happened. In the end I stopped playing him because I knew he was cheating. It's a shame that years later people can still
get away with this kind of cheat online.

Plus this shit is so lame, who the hell really cares about on online record? If I cared about a record it would be in real tournaments where you can't disconnect the internet. Speaking of dedicated servers, COD (not the newest version but previous one) used dedicated servers and still had bullshit happen because if there wasn't a dedicated server in the area then it falls back on the Host player.

Man that shit pisses me off to no end, when your not Host there is stupid ass lag and when your Host it's the opposite where it's seems like there is less lag but your dead in a shot or 2 either way you can't win. I'm going to upgrade my internet to 150 Mbs to see if that makes an improvement but with my busy life and getting older I have little time or tolerance for the same broken system year after year even on so called "Next Gen" systems.

Right. I know some people who boost multiplayer for achievements on Xbox, and the guy at the top of the leaderboards on Enemy Territory: Quake Wars harasses anyone new who starts the game and only has a few kills on the leaderboards. It's ridiculous. I started tweeting Activision asking them to take down the fucking leaderboards. They claim the game is "unsupported." If it's no longer supported ,why the fuck are the leaderboard servers still up after like 8 years? If anyone wants to help with that, their twitter is @ATVIAssist

I spent over 6000 hours on Halo Reach. You wanna see some fucking assholes? There were people who would hide in firefight (co-op) some place the enemies can't get to (glitch spots outside the map) and expect others to do all the work while they rack up rounds survived for a commendation and XP for being there. I was actually host booted by one of the lazy ones who was hiding in the spawn because I ran him down with a ghost. I found it interesting that many of the people who took the time to hide had MLG gamerpics. No respect for co-op whatsoever. Fuck MLG. All they do is play in a sandbox and whine about map control. Whoever gets the rockets, wins. Try something with true balance where both teams have the same shit, like BTB. Can't do cheap shit like banking grenades around corners and 1-shotting people on a wide open map.

I've gotten to the point there's nothing I can stand to play online because it's either dominated by people like that, or has bullshit limitations that screw over the most hardcore players. I dealt with a daily XP cap on Halo for years, and it pissed me off even after hitting max rank. I kept screaming at Bungie and 343 to stop that shit. Did they listen? Hell no. Halo 4 went on to be the same shit with people idling co-op for XP and a daily cap, after the idiots partnered with Mt. Dew and Doritos to give out double XP codes! Destiny is even worse. Oh, you need 6 people for raids, can only do them like twice a week, etc etc. Why the fuck would anyone play that shit? COD games are shit online. I never tried the multiplayer until Black Ops 3, and I only jumped in there once cause it was double XP. Spray and pray fucking garbage! At least Halo had DMRs, a semi-auto precision weapon. Everything on COD is full auto and burst fire. There's nothing like a DMR. You can get a sniper, but you're dead in 2 seconds cause people are all over you spraying rounds. I absolutely despise ADS (aim down sights), and prefer the old school reticule aiming like Halo Reach was, so that's another reason I avoid COD. RPGs are all half-assed action RPGs now with terrible combat mechanics developed for keyboard and mouse. All I want is something like Devil May Cry (original/3/4, not DmC) to play online with no daily/weekly caps on any fucking thing. I could do classic turn based too. I even enjoyed Diablo 3, but the random map shit drove me nuts and the location of the minimap was tough on my neck. Something Halo Wars or XCOM Enemy Unknown as an MMO would be interesting too, but playing against other people sucks.

At this point, I'm sitting on a ridiculous amount of Xbox 360 games, most of which are backlog, and I'm pissed off I can't find a woman. I have very little use for online gaming. I'm almost tempted to pick up Halo Reach again and reclaim my #1 for kills in firefight. Last I checked, I still have the most assists in there. I don't really have anything left to prove though, and multiplayer is filled with cheating scum and mexican hosts. I like to play Anniversary Classic now and then, but half the matches lag so much I can't walk through a goddamn teleporter. Verizon ran a fiber line down this road in January, and I'm still trying to find out when the fuck I can get hooked up to it. Really pissing me off. I want that 150 meg internet too.

I feel your pain and have went on their forums to vent which I never did but god damn how many fucking versions of the same shit do they make but never fix the same fucking problems! I lost interest in Halo long ago so my main thing is COD which when everyone had so so internet it all ran fine with the occasional bullshit but now anyone who isn't over 50 Mbs or maybe more gets shitted on all the time.

An example was today I shot this guy who took 2 guys down right in front of me and I shot a whole clip into him and I know I hit him and nothing killed him but he killed me, on his screen in the kill cam my guy barely got a shot out so the connection plays a big role in my aggravation with FPS and Fighters all that other shit. I'll have the 150 Mbs in a few days so hopefully it will be better then.

Edit: Oh shit the speed came through just now! Going to test it out. Speed Test:

That down/up disparity, though. That's the one thing I like about Frontier at the moment. My upstream is pretty consistently 90% of downstream around here. Granted, their plan tops out at 25-30Mbps down, and they have zero plans to upgrade their infrastructure (ever from the sound of it), but until somebody starts consistently pushing 4K content, I can stand to avoid Comcast.

Believe me if I could get Fiber from Fios I would but that isn't available in my city, it's like a monopoly here with Comcast but yet 15 miles away another town has had it for years now.

The way this will work is the system will identify players who have high disconnect rates during matches and will lock them out of matchmaking for a period of time. Players who have been identified as abusing the system will receive an in-game message notifying them they have been locked out of matchmaking. More additions and enhancements to this system will be implemented in the future.
