Man Fatally Shoots Self While Taking Selfie With A Gun
Another responsible gun owner is felled by his own weapon.

If the phrase “selfie with gun” sounds like it could end badly, that’s because it very often does. In the newest tragic example, a 43 year old man in Washington state accidentally shot himself the death while trying to snap a self-portrait.
According to local outlet the Skagit Valley Herald, the man accidentally shot himself in the face with what he thought was an unloaded gun.
This, apparently, wasn’t the first time the deceased had used the gun in pics. The victim’s girlfriend told investigators that the two had been using the gun as a prop throughout the day. The man had removed and replaced the bullets in the pistols a number of times, but failed to note a bullet left in the gun just before the final, fatal photo session. A spokesman for the sheriff’s office told the Herald that the death is being treated as an accident.
There’s an awful lot of precedent for this incident. Since 2014, more than 50 people have died while in the act of taking selfies, a death toll that includes multiple cases of people accidentally shooting themselves.
Gun violence is a well-known issue in the United States, with accidental shootings being a symptom of the problem. For instance, in 2007, the Daily Beast reports there were 15,000-19,000, resulting in 600 deaths.
