I'm a huge Azumanga Daioh fan and I have been collecting all of the episodes of the anime, shorts, soundtracks, songs, and even video games based on the anime. And I wanted to see what the Azumanga Daioh games were like on Playstation and Game Boy Advance (not counting the unofficial fan-made games I've played).
The first I played was "Azumanga Daioh Advance" on GBA, it's a card game where the goal is to line up the cards that will make a combo on the stars (depending on how many stars you have on the cards) to inflict damage on the opponent. But if your opponent has cards with more stars, your health will drained in seconds, so keep an eye on your opponent's cards. Story mode on normal acts fair on the CPU, but in hard more, the CPU will definitely defeat you if you make one mistake. And when you win, you earn a random card which you can buy at the shop for free (I mainly buy cards with 5 or 6 stars). When you first time play without any manual, it's hard to know what to do, until I have found out after playing the game and watching videos online. I was trying my hardest to not lose in the game (by using savestates on my Visual Boy emulator) so I could unlock Yukari and Nyamo, as well as unlocking everything else. It took me a couple weeks to complete everything, but I was able to beat it. Overall, this game is challenging, but it's not too hard for me.
Then I played the PS1 game "Azumanga Donjara Daiou" after I downloaded the game on a website, and I was expecting the game to be as fun as Azumanga Daioh Advance. But then when I played it, I couldn't believe how hard and complicated it was. For starters, It's a mahjong style game done in a new way, and I'm not too familiar with those kind of games. My first time playing, I thought you were suppose to get the pieces with the higher number to beat your opponent, but not in this game. The CPU is way to smart and can easily beat you everytime you try to match up pieces that will give you more points. I never got pass the first opponent (Yomi) in Story Mode, and you have to beat the opponents 3 or 5 times. Even with the GameShark codes, it was merciless. Even when I watched a few videos online it still didn't help me. It's one of the hardest Azumanga Daioh games I' have ever played.
Unfortunately, I haven't played "Azumanga Daioh Puzzle Bobble" since I'm not good at the Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move puzzle games, so sorry I can't review it.
