  • Those bastards...

    http://www.programmers-corner.com/tutorial/30

Why the hell does anybody care if someone hacks codes for their games, when it doesn't involve piracy or online gameplay manipulation? What kind of self-absorbed, insecure bastard would do that? But, geh, similar things have been done in console games...

I think so long as it don't involve online gameplay it's cool. I know having online cheaters can really rune the experience.

I was going to post this reply at that site but the post feature has been disabled due to spamming.

Who says modifying a game is cheating? As I recall the first console device was not called a "Cheat Device" but rather a "game enhancer". Many kids today can beat video games very quickly without cheats. however, I breathe new life into my old games by playing around with them. Don't forget, the same way you can have inf life is the same way you can make all enemies invincible too.I can make a game harder. I flirted with video games since I was 12 playing a new game at the drugstore called "Pong". I played games now and then through the years but never really got hooked untill I could create codes for them.
Also, I feel that no one has the right to tell us how to use the product that we paid for. If I want to use the thing for a coaster then that is my right just as it is my right to have inf lives instead of sitting through reload screens all day long in order to continue playing (same result either way but much less frustration).
Also, sometimes the programmers cheat the people who buy thier games. They put stuff in the game and then don't make it possible to access it! extra levels, vehicles, tracks, charecters. For whatever reason, deadlines, change of mind, laziness or not enough space. I hate buying a game that has the all-to-familiar unplayable charecters in it. What if I want to play as those charecters? Maybe I don't care if they are cheesy (makes for great handicapping). The appeal of videogames is that they appeal to ones need for empowerment. I take empowerment to the next level.

Some games aren't even good enough to play much without being hacked a bit first. It's not good for people making games to try and prevent cheating, they should be working more on the game so people are less likely to want to if the game sucks.

That, and from what I've been told, a spike in GS hacking caused FFVII sales to soar...some people buy games just to hack them, or because they heard about some really cool codes for them. Though without any hacking systems as of late, that's not the case as much lately.

I prefer the Genesis, Snes and game boys for decent games. Now a days most games involve running somewhere in a set amount of time. Though RTS, FPS, Fighting games rock.

If I encounterd that on a GCN game, I'd just edit the program? lol

Heh, hacking can't be stopped. Though, it can be made more difficult for beginners, I guess.
