  • Teens React To The Brutal Gauntlet That Is Contra For NES

    By Kyle Hilliard

Contra for the NES is notoriously difficult – especially for young players who didn't grow up with Nintendo's console.

Below, the folks over at React on YouTube have put together a compilation of teens trying out the game for the first time. They don't know the Konami code, or how to jump between levels, but two of them do figure out the benefits of swimming underwater.

For more from the React YouTube channel, head here to see teens play Mario Kart, and here to see them try to figure out a Tiger Handheld.

    Bunch of morons.

You can't be that stupid to not figure out one button shoots, after having shot a bunch of times already.

I couldn't watch after 3 minutes. They have to be coached to be so stupid because I can't believe there are people like that.

I agree, "Which button is to jump?" there are only 2 damn buttons but it was funny to see these old games being played by the new generation of gamers.

You'd think current-generation gamers would actually scoff at NES Contra (and other two-button games) for being TOO easy, even without the Konami code. And as for the "Teens react to the Brutal Gauntlet" Youtube video, it's at LEAST two, if not four, years old. In short, it's old news. However, it's kind of funny seeing those guys "pretend" to not know how to play Contra.

This makes me want to start a "you know you're bad at NES games, when...(fill in the blank)" topic.

Contra isn't too easy. It just gots uncomplicated controls. Since the kids didn't grow up with 2d sidescrollers they would have the instinct to press down + jump to go off cliffs. I think Contra would be pretty hard without the Konami code tho. At least in modern games you can take a few hits before you die. You also got regenerating health.
