Anyone follow any semipro football? Mosta the players are pro or college wannabees, or people as myself, who just loved to play football.
I played for 11 years, 1970-1980, in the OVFL(Ohio Valley Football League) as a fullback & linebacker. Hadta buy my own equipment, which cost me about $400 in 1970 $$s. We had no insurance, and no PAY. All we got was transportation to away games, and our uniforms.
We played on high school or college fields, & some were really shitty, fulla gravel & debris. The officiating was decent. Hey, I managed several 1000-yard seasons, scored over 100 points several seasons, made over 100 tackles every season. (We generally played 12-14 games plus playoffs.)
However, I knew I wasn't big enuff(6'2",240) nor fast enuff to play pro. I played because I simply LOVED TO PLAY FOOTBALL! However, after 11 years, my dream had been fulfilled, and, at age 33, my body said "Enuff!" I bruised easier & healed slower than I'd done in my younger days. I bid a fond farewell to Tuesday & Thursday Night Lights & sold my equipment for $300 to a new semipro-er.
It was fun, but I wouldn't recommend it except to those wanting to catch the pro scouts' eye. If you're injured, you're screwed, and NOT by a cheerleader!
