  • TigerDirect Closing Most North American Retail Stores?

    By tigerthrowawayswfll

This is obviously a throwaway for many reason as this is new to me as well. I work at TigerDirect in Southwest Florida as a Service Adviser in the Tech Center. Today we closed two hours early and sent home, and we will have a meeting to inform the rest of the employees about this. We're no longer accepting any more tech work and I am probably tasked to call all current customers that we're working on to come pick up there computers immediately. I believe all stores are going to have some form of blowout sale to get rid of all the stock in store and the warehouses. TigerDirect is putting all of their resources to Business to Business (B2B) which will still operate. As far as online sales for regular consumers, I am not sure yet.

I knew this was going to happen, mainly because anyone that was Part Time couldn't work no more than 25 hours, and they decided to give up Pay Cards instead of paper checks to "save money".

I promise to update everyone about this tomorrow, like I said, there is a meeting at 10am EST. Comment or PM me if anyone has any questions.

    PROOF that I work there:

TigerDirect closing all retail stores and moving strictly to business to business. Not sure about online sales at this time.

EDIT : Alright guys I just woke up. After I posted this I asked my boss if this was true, and instead of replying me, he instead called me to tell me that I should be there today at 10am. Just to give some more context on to what is happening. Meeting is in 1 1/2 hours, and once it's done I'll keep you guys posted.

EDIT 2 : Just got here. Mostly all of the employees are here. None of the managers are not in uniform. Here we go.

EDIT 3 : Alright guys the meeting has finished up and got lots of Intel. TigerDirect is closing 31 out of 35 stores. The ones that are staying open are Miami, Puerto Rico, Jefferson, and I forgot the last one. Gordon Brothers is taking over liquidation of the stores closing and the sales begin once we open back up tomorrow. As far as how great the sales are, I don't know. Lots of screaming, yelling, tears. Just people are in disarray, especially the ones that have been with the company for a very long time. Here is some of the signs you all are gonna see soon.

FINAL EDIT : Alright guys this will be the last update as its all starting to be all wrapped up. The liquidation signage is all done at my store (Ft Myers) and ready for tomorrow. To those that say it's only for the small stuff, that is simply not true. ALL items are being marked down, from PC components, cables, to gaming laptops and TV's. it's gonna start out small with the savings, from 5-30% off, and will increase every Thursday up to 90% off. Just thought I'd led you all know. It will be worth it to shop for components. Example, motherboards have 15% off starting already. Have a great evening everyone.
