Who do you think is the coolest video-game protagonist ever?

I'll give a list of some protagonists that I think have earned the right to be called "cool":

1. Samus Aran
2. Mega Man
3. Godzilla
4. Sonic the Hedgehog
5. Solid Snake

Here are some others which should NEVER be called "cool":

1. Yo! Noid
2. Cool Spot (even though it's in his name)
3. Bubsy!
4. Aero the Acro-Bat

Well, I like Cool Spot. But I'd probably have to vote for Solid Snake for real tho.

Here are some other decent but virtually unknown video-game protagonists:

1. Kao the Kangaroo (starred in at least four different games, the best of which were on the GameCube and PS2).
2. Gex the Gecko (had three main games, all of which were decent classics, plus a couple of GBC games).
3. Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (looks a lot like Ratchet, IIRC)
4. Scaler (some kid gets turned into an electric reptile = AWESOMESAUCE!). Cookie if you know about this one.
5. Croc (that cute little snaggletoothed alligator)
6. Wex Major (from the PSX game "Wild 9". Known to yell "Wex-cellent!")
7. Buck Bumble

And finally, a few more little-known (and best LEFT that way) protagonists:

1. Bug! (This guy was...weird. Had a human-shaped behind, despite being a...well, bug. I'd rather watch "The Fly" again)
2. Vectorman (not sure what the gist of his games was)
3. Glover (the only thing going for him was the word-play about his appearance and his name being the surname of a famous actor)
4. Boogerman (seriously...a WHOLE game based on the act of picking one's nose?! Ewww...)

The latter two you mentioned are actually COOL protagonists. The first two (well, three--if you count Toe Jam and Earl separately), aren't what I would call "cool".

Cloud Strife, Squall Leonhart and Zidane Tribal are all awesome protagonists. Although I've never played any of the Kingdom Hearts games, I still think that Sora is a pretty cool hero character. After all, the Keyblade concept is genius in and of itself.
