Jun Yuan is at a loss for words after getting a more than $3,200 monthly bill for internet service.
“We didn't know we used a lot, so now I'm asked to pay $3,200,” said the Chinese international student studying at Palomar College.

Yuan received a $3,226 bill from Verizon for using 188 gigabytes of internet data.
Yuan says he went to the San Marcos Verizon store on Nordahl Road last month, where he was asked by the store employee what he'd be using the Internet for.
“We are international students. ‘We need to do homework,’ I said. ‘Maybe sometimes watch a movie, watch YouTube.’”
He was told 4 gigabytes would be sufficient, so he agreed.
Then two weeks ago, Yuan received a phone call from Verizon stating he owed thousands of dollars. Yuan says when he called back, he was transferred to a Chinese translator who told him he could pay the bill in increments.
10News spoke to a manager at the San Marcos store, who said he was unaware of the situation. The manager said 188 gigabytes sounded extremely high and was willing listen to speak to Yuan about the ordeal.
Yuan was told management would inquire into the matter.
