  • Mewtwo Returns...Again!

That's right--Sakurai, the creator of Smash Bros. 3DS, has announced that Mewtwo will be avenging his Brawl absence by invading Smash Bros 3DS and Wii U.

He will be arriving sometime in the spring of 2015.

Those who own both the Wii U and 3DS versions of Smash will be given a code to download him for free. I believe that to receive the free Mewtwo DLC content, you simply need to own both games, and don't also need to plunk down another 250 dollars for a Wii U.

I also believe that Mewtwo will be available as a paid DLC character either at the same time or a little bit later.

So...it remains to be seen what sort of character 'Two will be on the new games. Let's just hope he's not the horribly nerfed mess he was on Melee (which didn't stop me from always playing as him ). *crosses fingers*

Well, in truth, this thread doesn't have a hacking theme, per se...YET. I was wondering if Mewtwo's data were actually included in the 3DS cart itself. If so, is it possible to get at Mewtwo's data, and unlock him (preferably before he was ever supposed to be unlocked...heh heh. Take that, Sakurai! )

I don't have a Wii-U, so I won't be getting the Wii-U copy of the game. That means no Mewtwo. It also means no Smash Bros Soundtrack from Club Nintendo. I just love being a fan sometimes.

I doubt it. There is already a 3ds powersave unlocking "all" characters, and it doesn't include MewTwo or any others.

Now that I think about it, I haven't used the powersave. I have unlocked everything legit. But still, I doubt it.

Datel has too much power in regards to what code(s) we get, and when (or if) we get them. The fact that we can't make our own codes gives them absolute power over us.

Galoob had partial power over us when it released its Game Genie system for the NES. Of course, enterprising "pseudo-hackers" came up with their own codes, and eventually even decrypted the Genie's encryption system, making even more codes possible.

Datel doesn't even let us see what the "codes" look like when they apply them to our 3DS game saves. They did this for a brief time with the PSP Action Replay (before it, too, was hacked, and transformed into TempAR by raing3), and still do it with the Wii Action Replay.

Helder has a REALLY good idea with the whole "packet sniffing" suggestion. Someone needs to be able to sniff out what exactly is going on when Datel applies codes to a 3DS game. If the process can be reverse-engineered through such spying, we will inevitably see a veritable EXPLOSION of new, "unofficial" save edits and cheat codes. The 3DS will have officially been hacked!

P.S. I have a hypothesis: I believe that there is a possibility that the SAME. EXACT. code structure is used for inserting codes onto 3DS games as was used with the PSP Action Replay. Thus, look for addresses with a 0x088xxxxx structure. This, of course, could be totally wrong, but it's worth a shot to investigate.

Datel is only patching saves. You seem like you're one of those people wearing a hat made of tin foil. They probably don't want you to screw up your save and then blame their device.

The whole codes thing is nothing more than a hacked save, when I think of codes I think or RAM or ROM hacks and Datel has screwed that whole terminology up for people using their device. I agree with rimsky about people screwing up their saves and at the same time it keeps the game save algorithms to themselves so the average "Joe" doesn't mess with it or more competition will arise. The packet sniffing was an idea to see where their server is and what info is being sent back and forth, not sure it will help but atleast we know where to look or even use this info to trick the program to going to another server and see the info it tries to send.

The Cyber Gadget Save Editor reads and decrypts the save, allows the user to create and apply his/her own save patch via built-in hex editor, and encrypts the save with the modifications. It offers a lot more freedom than the Powersaves 3DS. Unfortunately, the device is only compatible with JP saves which is an impediment for the majority of us. This lack of competition works in favor of Datel, but they will be obligated to offer these features if CGSE expands to the US. Failure to comply will risk losing users and capital and no business wants that.

Well, maybe a way could be found to "hack" the Cybergadget device so it works on US/PAL 3DS games. It's only a matter of time...heh heh.

As for that tin-foil hat thing, I've never worn one of those. Does it actually work to block out those harmful mind-control rays? LOL

Cyber Gadget was written in C# and the code isn't obfuscated which means you can easily decompile it through other means. I don't know how crucial this information is to you since there's still server-side interaction going on. I would just wait to see if they will support the US or hope Datel gives us what the people want.

Maybe there's a way to send a letter directly to the Cyber Gadget company, and request that they build such a device for American and European 3DS games. Just email them until they reply. I'm sure they have better customer service than Datel. Meanwhile, I'm going to try to see if I can get Datel to release some sort of save-editing software (or a Powersaves update) which allows us to edit our own saves.

I know what you're going to say--"Good luck with that one, bub!" Well, it's worth a shot.

Nintendo has been able to patch games via eShop update downloads for a while now. (No idea when it started.) There's been a patch released already for Smash Bros. that bumps the version up to v1.0.2. Most of the patches are online only, but it's possible for them to add offline features. Also, New Super Mario Bros. 2 had a level shop you could buy levels from. It came in the form of a rather small download. (1-2 blocks) This stuff likely doesn't exist in a save. DLC is exactly what it stands for. Downloadable Content.

CMX has the rights of English version of Cyber Save Editor for 3DS, when it is coming out I have no idea.
