  • Are Virtual Boy Games About To Hit The Nintendo 3DS?

    By Cauterize

As we all know, the 3DS was not Nintendo's first venture into 3D gaming. The fabled Virtual Boy was Nintendo's earlier tried and tested system, which while having many merits, failed commercially. As of today though Nintendo's handheld has successfully brought 3D entertainment back to the gaming world. For retro gamers though, one question remains unanswered regarding the 3DS - when will Virtual Boy games hit the Virtual Console? This query may well be answered in the coming weeks...

Earlier this week it had been reported that a trademark application from Nintendo had surfaced for the term 'Virtual Boy' at the European Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market database. While there is no information as of yet on how the software giant intends to use the trademark, we can only hope that this is indeed the first steps towards re-releasing titles from the 1995 console's back-catalog.

With the already existing 3D functionality on the 3DS, it makes perfect sense for Nintendo Virtual Boy games to be re-released on the handheld. With the likes of Virtual Wario Land, Teleroboxer, and Jack Bros potentially being made available without the need of an expensive system, many retro gamer's dreams of enjoying these classics on the cheap could be realized.

Until more is known about this application, we'll be crossing our fingers in hope that the red and black visuals will soon be visible on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

This would be cool, but what would be REALLY awesome is if they colorized the games, as originally intended with the Virtual Boy.
