  • Handhelds can have Unhealthy Obsessions, Too?

You read that right--my PSP appears to have developed an unhealthy (and extremely aggravating) obsession with causing random freezes with pretty much ANY game I play. It has even taken place while I was playing a SPIDER-MAN game, for crying out loud! And, it was a game that was NOT known for its game-freeze issues.

My PSP 1000 is no more useful than a paperweight of equivalent size and shape. And worth less than said paperweight, as well. I'd take a hammer to it, but it would definitely attract some unwanted paternal attention (especially considering what time it is now--after 2 am).

Oh well, I still have my PC, and a decent, lightweight, comfortable-to-type-on keyboard. Looks like I'm going to be seeking some emulation action, as well as dusting off all my MUGEN characters.

I do, however, see a light at the end of the tunnel, and no, it isn't a freight train coming my way (Metallica reference--how many can guess what song I just hinted at?): I have a job-setup interview at my local Landrum Staffing office on Monday morning, for a custodial job. It'll be a full-time affair, with decent pay, benefits, and possibly (if I become a permanent fixture) vacation time.
    Tempus fugit, ergo, carpe diem.

Time flies, therefore, seize the day.

Don't take a hammer to that PSP 1000. It's valuable.

Why should I agree with your statement that the infernal machine you call a "PSP 1000" is in any way valuable? It has been a source of so much frustration, strife and a cause of countless arguments and shouting matches between myself and my father (he becomes angry at my disruptive outburst due to the PSP's stupid behavior--either spitefully freezing to keep me from winning some game, or using frustratingly cheap AI to do the same thing).

Seriously, the PSP has frequently become a wedge between me and my father, and I've gotten sick and tired of it, so the PSP is officially OUT.

I actually want to take a hammer to this blasted hunk of silicon and hate, and end its tyrannical reign of endless oppression over my life. However, it would be an insult to the hammer to make it have to stoop so low as to be used as the weapon of mass destruction on what amounts to little more than a pile of electronic puke.

Trust me...I can lambaste the PSP for hours like this. I can spew vitriolic harangues against it all day if I so chose, but that would leave me feeling hollow inside, and with a lingering sensation of unfulfilled vengeance.

Therefore, I'll simply have to come up with a way to play simpler games that aren't a paranoid schizophrenic's realized worst nightmare (yes, they ARE "out to get you"). The answer: GBA, SNES and NES emulators. The days of simpler games call to me across a vast ocean of time, seeking to massage my damaged psyche with nostalgia, bright, simple colors and catchy, cheerful music. And the corpses of stomped Goombas.

This reminds me why I love Nintendo.

It's valuable because you can use custom firmware with it. It's the easiest console to use for that.
