Internet connections aren’t used to just browse the Web anymore, as they also have more intensive uses, such as streaming movies and allowing many to partake in multiplayer gaming. Such usage eats up more bandwidth than the common user, and Verizon CEO Lowel McAdam believes it should carry a premium.
McAdam offered his thoughts on charging a premium to heavy bandwidth users during a recent conference call where he said the following:
"It's only natural that the heavy users help contribute to the investment to keep the Web healthy. That is the most important concept of net neutrality."
As for the notion that Verizon would opt to block or throttle bandwidth access to heavy users, McAdam said the company would not consider taking such action:
"We make our money by carrying traffic. That's how we make dollars. So to view that we're going to be advantaging one over the other really is a lot of histrionics, I think, at this point."
Do you think heavy bandwidth users should pay more?
