It's my favorite emulator, well for for finding read/write/execute breakpoints, I would have to say JNES because the sound doesn't crackle & the newest version comes with a cheat database.

Could be your sound card which is some integrated card or your speakers. try different sound options in the emulator to improve the sound.

I have, just can't get sound to work properly, even adjusted sound buffer size, you see the bad thing is, my backup Vista discs that were made by empowering technology had all my drivers & everything i needed for my PC (on 3 DVD+R's), I had to download video & modem drivers because all I have now is a Vista Home Premium SP2 DVD.

Sorry, can't do that, already tried to install 7, it tells me my PC specs aren't enough, I was thinking about a stronger machine, but sadly the majority of newer PC's come with 8, & just trying to imagine Windows without the start menu/button just gives me the creeps, it's like trying to navigate an Android with a mouse, I will never ever get a PC with 8 pre-installed, unless I wipe that 8 junk off & put 7 on it, what was MS thinking? that more people will want Windows just because it looks like an overrated smart phone!?, please! MS must want to lose all of it's fan-base who enjoy traditional Windows, most people might not agree with what I'm going to say but, I will stick with with Vista over 8 anyday! And we all know that PC will always be FAR superior than any smartphone or console, Windows can do much, MUCH more than any phone/console can, not hating on console though, say PS4 for instance, it may be stronger than a PC when it comes out, but after a while PC will have faster/stronger processors, at one point I couldn't use Vista, instead I had to install Ubuntu 12.04(Hey Canonical, Unity desktop sucks!) with from an SD card, when I first seen it I wondered, where is everything at, it's like it's designed for people who either love smartphones or don't know how to use a PC, I hated it until I found out about the gnome classic desktop, then I felt very relieved, I think they were trying to copy MS with Windows 8's look.

Windows 8 has an improved start menu, and to access it you move your mouse to the corner. It's not a big deal, and it's much more stable than Vista, which was almost as big a mistake as Windows ME. Being too afraid of change makes win8 whiners look old and senile, like an old man after you switch his sock drawer with his underwear drawer. Windows 8 is not that much different from 7, except it comes with anti-virus built in you don't have to pay for, and the start menu has apps and live tiles which make it better.

The fact that your computer can run Vista but not 7 is odd to me, especially since 7 is way more efficient and stable.

With that said, let's not turn a thread about a NES emulator into a geek tech argument.

Edit: Forgot to mention that for the senile people, there is a reg hack to have the start menu button in win8.

I'm not a whiner, I just don't like 8, enough from me on this.

I'm glad FCEUX is getting worked on again, it's a great project.

I would say that it actually is the best NES emulator developed, & it's portable.

I had the same problem, but only it was with the emulator Snes9X. I thought it was the emulator but then I realized it was my computer that wasn't powerful enough to run it while using video filters. It made it slightly below 100% speed, which caused sound crackling. Once I disabled the video filters, the speed increased to 100% and the sound crackling stopped.
