        You ever try the MESSUNI?
        http://messui.the-chronicles.org/messuni/index.html

        There's also UME
        http://mamedev.emulab.it/haze/

Both are MESS and MAME combined. MESSUNI is discontinued. It was short lived and only had one release IIRC. But, UME is still active and gets updated with every MAME/MESS "u" update.

MAME and MESS have officially combined sources, though the executables still compile separately.

          UME is unofficial.

If you need a decent GUI, I would recommend QMC2.

I have tried QMC2 before but it was a pain to configure and I didnt care much for it. All I want is a simple GUI like the MESSUI and thats it without a ton of configuring since I already configured the MESSUI which can be a pain to get working mind you.

Sorry, I don't think I can help. I don't use MESS. For the systems I play, there are far superior emulators than MESS. I do know that most people recommend QMC2 for MESS. I use MAMEUIFX for MAME... I use to use MAMEUI but I switched to MAMEUIFX. They are basically the same only MAMEUIFX has additional features such as "Autofire"... which is the main reason why I switched. But for Vectrex games, I go back to using MAMEUI since it has a setting that MAMEUIFX doesn't have that can make the "Beam Width" thicker and easier to see. For some reason, that setting is missing from MAMEUIFX.

QMC2 can be a bit of a pain to configure, but MESS is complicated enough that you won't find an easy loader with so many capabilities. I could attempt at making one I guess, but I don't have the time right now. Maybe in a couple weeks, but it would be a big project even to build a simple loader.

Once configured correctly, it's easy to use. I can start MESS and be debugging any game I want within seconds. I have a windows task updating the source and compiling MESS, MAME, and QMC2 every morning at 7. That way I always have the latest build.

While MESS is great for emulating tons of systems, the down-sides are getting used to the command-line debugger, and that not all systems debug or even run smoothly yet (e.g. N64). Another down-side is the lack of updated documentation, especially in the debugging/cheats realm.

If you could compile an updated MESSGUI that would be great but if you can't I can live with the current and last build of the MESSGUI. I mainly use it to hack GBA and Genesis Assembly codes, for any other hacking like RAM I use other emulators. You are right about not having much documentation on the Hacking/Debugging which sucks, I try to look up some guides by Pugsy since he knows the emulator very well.

This is a little off topic, what front end do you guys use for DOSBox? I haven't been using a front end for it, but I think it would be easier for me especially since I only know the basics of commandline (basically all I know is how to load a game and create a configuration setting .ini file.) So if I were to use a front end, I would probably be able to utilize more features etc. and it would just be overall easier and quicker for me. Any recommendations?

I've barely used dosbox, so I wouldn't know which frontend to recommend. I try to use VM's whenever possible, though they don't always work and probably have less compatibility than dosbox considering they aren't built with dos or old windows in mind. Unless you're using an old version of Microsoft's VM, like from '04, which I can't since I'm using win8. I just don't play many dos games, unless I'm playing around with SCUMM.

If I'm really interested in a dos game, I'll just get out an old computer and use it. I've got a couple '98 boxes around here for that reason.
