From the developer, Pingouin7:
This week, out of boredom, I have created something. If you've heard of/played the fan-made Zelda: Return of the Hylian/Oni-Link Returns/Time to Triumph, this may ring a bell to you.
What this .zip files contains:
- An IPS patch for Snes9x 1.52*
- The patch for A Link to the Past
- Config file for Snes9x**
- Icon of the program
Now, the explanations.
The three fan-made games mentioned above are sequels to A Link to the Past.
What this hack means to do is give A Link to the Past a similar feel.
Instructions:
1- Patch your binary of snes9x 1.52 with the included IPS patch;
2- Patch the ALttP rom;
3- Place the emulator + config file + rom in a folder in C:\Program Files\ (Not actually necessary)
4- Right-click on your A Link to the Past rom, go to "Opens with..." and click "Change." Select the patched Snes9x, and make sure to select "Always use this program for files of this type."
5- Right click on the rom file again, but this time make a shortcut that leads to it. Place that shortcut wherever you want (Taskbar, Start Menu, Desktop, etc.)
6- Right-click the shortcut, select "Change icon", then "Browse." Select the icon that was included in the .zip
You will now have an icon on the Taskbar/Start Menu/Desktop that, when clicked, will automatically start up the game in the emulator.
The emulator has been edited to make it feel like this was a stand-alone game, much like ROTH/OLB/TtT.
Controls:
D-Pad: Arrow keys
A: C
B: Z
X: M
Y: X
Start: Enter
Select: Space bar
(Those of you who have played ROTH/OLB/TtT will know why I chose this control setup.)
The rom file has been graphically edited to reflect the change to the controls.
Example: When you receive a dungeon map, the game will tell you to press M to open the dungeon map. Same for whenever the game tells you to press A, B, X or Y.
There were other changes made to the rom file which weren't necessary, but I thought would be nice additions:
- The — Life — thing above the health bar has been removed, much like how it looks on the GBA version of the game;
- The numbers that indicate the amount of Rupees, Bombs and arrows you own have been changed to their GBA counterparts;
- Link's hair color was changed to Yellow (Because you know Link looks weird with Pink hair);
- The inventory screen used to have big Y and A in the top left corners of their respective screens. These have been removed (Partly because I couldn't figure out how to edit them.)
