• New User Group! You Can Now Add Your Own Codes!

Hey Everyone we have come up with a new User Group called "Hacker" which will allow the "Hacker" to be able to upload their own codes to the site (Staff will authorize the added codes and then will be visible on site). If anyone is interested in being part of the group I have made a small list which the other Admins/Staff are welcome to change or give input.

    Hacker Group Criteria:

    1. Have hacked at least 5 games on any system in any format (obviously posted here in the forums for proof)
    2. Have hacked codes which are new and not currently on the site.
    3. Be a Registered and active user for at least a month (being active is always a plus)
    4. Know how to make and post codes in the correct format including use of code format, codetype and alignment of bit order.

If anyone is interested just post here or PM me or one of the other Admins.

Here are the current Members in the "Hacker" group:

      Great, thanks!

      Questions:

      1) Where exactly do I go to add my codes? I'm leaving for work, so I don't have much time to investigate right now.

      2) Can I only add my codes or other people's codes? Because Silentkiller left and all his codes will be lost if no one adds them.

You just go to the game's page you want to add codes to, and you'll see an add code button.

You can only add your own for now. A chronicler should add silentkiller's codes, I think Abystus may have been planning on it.

Be sure to post here or in the Beta Feedback subforum if you have questions about adding/modifying your codes.

Don't need to. You should already have the permissions as the news guy.

Thanks for the hook up but am I the only 1 who doesn't know what to do? It seems expected that I should know what to do now. Sorry, but can anyone point me in the right direction? I know that my long sets of RPG codes must be pretty tedious so I don't mind entering them in directly. Just let me know how to get started please.

Was my last message deleted? I'd be happy to add my own codes. Just tell me how please.

This is from a Post by rimsky that explains how to add codes, some things might not pertain to the new Group as this was for the Chroniclers but should be identical.:

Pretty self-explanatory. Select the group or leave it "Top", and give it a name. Make sure the code data dropdown matches the type of data you're putting in the box. You can select a hacker by clicking or typing in a name, you can select multiple hackers by using the SHIFT or CTRL key. Editing will obvioiusly fill everything in, but the code data dropdown. Make sure when editing that it is correct or the site won't be able to recognize the code.

The picture says it all. You can delete more than one at a time.

                    Consolidating

Here are a bunch of codes that begin with "Start With..." and all modify the same address. This can be consolidated into one code with multiple values.

I gave it an appropriate name, set the code data box to Game Genie, and put each code, followed by a space and the description, on it's own line. The site notices they alter the same address, and records each value along with the description. I chose the correct hacker and hit submit.

Here's my new code. The code's value changes when I select a different value with the dropdown box. I made sure it was all correct, and then deleted the old codes from the database.

Note: For administrators, the "Plain Text" box is always visible. I could do the same for Chroniclers, I may even make it an option for anybody.

My fault- I messed up a permission when I created the Hackers group that put your posts in the moderation queue. I fixed it, and I'll look over the permissions again.

That post should give you a good idea, even though it was outdated hours after I posted it. It should still help you out though.

Do we have to use the Beta version to add our own codes? Where do I add the codes to, what page, menu, or setting do I go to so I can get started?

You need to add codes to the new site, since it's a separate table from the old one. So any added to the old one since the beta launch will be lost.

First, you'll want to adjust your site settings so you can see every game. On the new site, go to the arrow in the top right corner, and click on site settings. Adjust the Game Filter options to include every type of game, and games with currently 0 codes.

To add your codes, simply find the page for your game through the normal navigation, as if you were searching for codes. In the box to the right of the codes, you should see "Add" with two buttons beneath it, Category and Code. Just press the Code button, fill in the details, and press submit. The page should refresh with your code. Since you are in the hacker group, you will automatically be credited for the codes you add.

Be sure to follow the guidelines in the post that helder quoted earlier in this thread. For the actual code data, make sure that the format is correct according to the console. I'm going to put a table of formats directly on the code entry page that pops up for examples.

You can edit your codes after they've been submitted by pressing the "E" button next to the code title/hacker name. "X" deletes the code.

That should get you started. Don't hesitate to ask questions.
Please put all complaints in writing and submit them here.

Thanks for the detailed explination, its very clear now. So now all (NES) games are listed on the site even if they dont have codes for them yet? We just find the listed game and add new, original codes? Sounds good, keep up the good work. I'm glad that I dont have to bother the administrators to enter my boring and repetitive codes. Thanks for adding me to the group.
