  • SNES Game Genie decoding questions

What part of gg code tells it for lo-rom or hi-rom?

Because all snes gg patcher software
(including Game Genie Guy! and Super EverDrive v2)
50% of time, its patching to the wrong addresses

    meanwhile
legit game genie cart and snes9x patching the same code to the correct addresses.

I believe it has something to do with the fact that gg and emulators patch the code in, or on it's way to, snes memory, where hi/lo doesn't matter, whereas the others have to pre-patch the rom and are always assuming lo-rom. I'm pretty sure goldfinger codes can include the offset for patching hi-rom, but genie codes don't include that info since it doesn't need it.

That answer may be partially correct.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm just digging around the forums.

I check for the hi-rom bit in the header and default to lo-rom if it is not a match. The SNES has more voodoo than other systems in trying to get the code to the right offset. If you find not working codes let me know. I am always trying to improve compatibility.
