I don't look at GS Central much. I think it's fairly safe to say that the majority of codes for the PSX were hacked with a memory scanner, because that was the heyday of the GS Pro, and anyone with $50 to spend could make codes without much effort.

Knowing ways you might hack a particular code is a matter of experience. And sometimes you have no idea how to hack the code, but what experience tells you is where to look for information that might help you. If you have no idea what you're dealing it with, it's time to do research. Even if all that means is asking a question on a forum.

I see, now I should of mentioned this before, but, there has been a code I' have been trying to hack, for Street Fighter Alpha 3 primarily, the purpose of the hack is to try and hack the values that control each characters fight sequences in the game, I've posted a video below, to illustrate clearly, what I mean by this.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ7sWmw8NUo

Th first thing you may notice immediately, at the the beginning of the fight, is that each fighter in the game is automatically programmed to execute his/her own fighting animation sequence, which happens to be somewhat distinctively different from the other fighters, which in my opinion is a unique feature the game programmers decided to implement into the game. So, any way basically what I'm trying to do, is i'm trying to hack a character animation modifier for player 1, so that I can control what animation sequences the character of player 1 performs at the beginning of the fight.

The main reason why this particular code is of interest to me, is simply because, in this game for some reason the cpu controlled characters can perform, certain fight animation sequences, that the human control player simply cannot do an example of this would be Balrog the boxer in the game, when this character is being controlled by a human controlled player, at the beginning of the fight, Balrog executes his fight sequence animation by performing a few fast quick jabs at the the opposing opponent, however when the computer controlled player play as Balrog, before the match begins, a punch bag mysteriously appears hanging from the celling, Balrog then destroys the punch bag with a dashing uppercut, resulting in the punch bag being demolished, Balrog then throws a few quick jabs at the opposing opponent, this example is one of many in the game, regarding the difference between the fight animation properties of a players, and that of the cpu.

So my question is, how do I go about hacking this type of code and is such a code even possible to hack, because I remember I previously tried to hack the code, before for the game, but was unsuccessful at doing so?

I have a feeling this one is going to be something of a wall for you. There are a lot of ways this might have been done, but what's happening is so fleeting that you're not likely to find it with a difference search. Not only that, but there's no reason to assume a difference search would even work.

I would start with what I know about the game. If there's a character modifier, it might be possible to work backwards from that, and find routines related to loaded character data. If that can be found, then it might only be a matter of tweaking values and seeing what happens. Eventually, enough information could be worked out to allow that code to be made. It'd be complicated, though, unless you happen to just stumble upon it.

I remember, previously when, I was trying to hack the code, I did happen to find values that did correspond to that of the characters animation values however, the address I found only controlled the winning, losing animation pose of the character, along with some bizzare random character animation sequences, that completely made no sense but the code itself had nothing to do with finding the character intro's animation sequence, so in that respect the code That I had originally found, was somewhat related to that of the characters animation. but unfortunately It was not the correct code I was looking for, so as far as finding the correct code, that's as close as I got to finding the actual code of my intention.
