  • Converting SNES PAR Codes to Game Genie Codes quick question..

    I read the article from codehut written by Tony Hedstrom about how to convert SNES PAR codes to Game genie codes. It says to download the gghex.exe program from the website: http://www.zophar.net/utilities/download/gg-hex.zip.

    Is this the same program available on this website called "Game Genie Code Converter v4.00"?

    Do I need to know how to hack or make game codes in order to know how to work the gghex.exe program? Or is it that easy that anyone can convert SNES PAR codes to game genie codes just by typing in the PAR code in the gghex.exe program? Do you know if this program works? (Sorry if i posted this in the wrong forum)

    No, they're not the same program. The "Game Genie Code Converter v4.00" program on this site is probably better than the one I mentioned in the guide (gg-hex.zip). I wrote that guide a looong time ago.

    Please note the very last sentence in the guide. It says that you can NOT convert SNES PAR codes that begin with 7E or 7F into working Game Genie codes. Those are considered "fake" Game Genie codes, and they might work on some emulators, but they absolutely will not work on a real SNES/Game Genie.

    Please do the hacking community a favor and don't make/post any "fake" Game Genie codes.

    EDIT: I guess I should have explained why you can't convert "7E" or "7F" type PAR codes into GG codes. SNES PAR codes that begin with 7E or 7F are RAM addresses, and the Game Genie can only modify ROM addresses.

      When I try to use the program "Game Genie Code Converter v4.00" to convert PAR codes to game genie codes for NES and Genesis it doesn't seem to work. I'll use the NES game Bad Dudes for example. The PAR infinite health code is 0002AB0F. When I enter that into the Hex code space, the game genie code converts to YAEAZEUX. But when I enter that game genie infinite health code and play Bad Dudes, it doesn't work. I tried different PAR codes with other games and it doesn't work as well. Also when I use the "Game Genie Code Converter v4.00" program with Sega Genesis, when I'm about to enter in the PAR codes to convert them to game genie, almost all the PAR codes are 2 digits/letters short. The only game console that the "Game Genie Code Converter v4.00" seems to work is for my Super Nintendo. Can anyone explain or help?

        PAR= RAM
        Game Genie = ROM
        there is no way to convert RAM codes to ROM codes

          I thought that is what the "Game Genie Code Converter v4.00" does? Read my first post of this thread. I'm confused

            The "Game Genie Code Converter v4.00" converts ROM or CPU addresses into Game Genie codes. It does NOT convert RAM addresses into Game Genie codes.

            It can be a little confusing, but here it is in a nutshell...

            NES: No NES PAR codes can be converted into GG codes.

            SNES: PAR codes that begin with 7E or 7F (and I think a few others?) can NOT be converted into GG codes.

            Genesis: PAR codes that begin with "FF" can NOT be converted into Game Genie codes.
