If you don't have an unlimited data plan for your iPhone, you may want to shut off this new feature that's part of the latest iOS9 software update. Otherwise, you may get charged hundreds or thousands of dollars on your cell phone bill in overage charges.
Here's how to disable "WiFi-Assist":
Go to Settings
Click Cellular
Scroll all the way to the bottom and disable Wi-Fi Assist. If the slider is not green anymore, the feature is disabled and you are safe once again.
If you recently upgraded to iOS9 you probably didn't notice a new feature called "WiFi-Assist" hidden in your settings.
Basically, the feature allows your phone to automatically switch over to your cell network if your WiFi signal is weak.
When it comes to a better user experience, it's a great idea, because it uses whichever signal is better, but if you don't have unlimited data on your plan, it could end up costing you a fortune.
This poor Verizon customer went from using a few gigabytes per month to more than 22 GB in only four days.

Disable #wifiassist so your data usage doesn't end up looking like mine. pic.twitter.com/myumbHJrHk
